Greetings,
I, like many of you, have more than one computer in my home. My personal use machine is a P2-400, which is sufficient for my uses I would anticipate for the next 3 to 6 months (less if my wife decides she needs the "faster" machine). I am planning on finally building a system something along the lines of the "high end" reccommended systems that so many tech sites suggest. I know where I can save (I already have 21", 19", and 17" monitors), I know a few features I want (1ghz+, USB 2.0, ATA100), but what I don't know is - what is coming down the pike in terms of cool new features / hardware?
I assume that by June / July timeframe, there will be some new things (or faster / cooler versions of old things, such as CDR's, and another generation of video cards). Any thoughts on what to wait for?
If you're wondering what type of usage my machine gets, it really is going to be mainly for gaming and video editing, so I believe I'll need high end components throughout to make things really move.
Once this new machine is completed, everything in the house gets moved down one spot...the wife gets my old machine, her machine becomes the MP3 jukebox attached to the home stereo / network, and the old mp3 jukebox goes into the kids room. Now if I can just convice my boss to let me "test" SDSL at 7Mb into my house...
