After Shogun, Medieval 1, Rome, and now Medieval 2, whats next? There was also Spartan: Total War, on consoles, which paled in comparison to the PC games.

Personally, I'd like to see a Total War game based on one of the middle east civilizations, Persia, Babylon, Egypt, or Assyria.

Discuss.

Agreed. Those are very cool scenarios.

Maybe a game involving the conquest of the americas by the europeans would be interesting as well?

Or what about 18th or 19th century European wars? Those would rock.

Heck, maybe one with a Sci-Fi setting would be intriguing!

I still want to see another title set in the ancient, pre-middle age, time frame. Perhaps something in China? I'm not too familiar with Chinese history though. Or a Shogun 2 remake?

RTS games diverge into two distinct categories.....those consisting of solely ranged combat (C&C style) and those that mix ranged with hand-to-hand (Warcraft style). Ensemble Studios and Creative Assembly are firmly encamped on the latter side. When Ensemble strayed with AoEIII they couldn't pull it off........the pitched balance and tenor of their games disappeared. I suspect we won't see CA do the same. In all reality, lines of Napoleanic Era troops firing at each other for a distance would get old really fast.

Mythology really doesn't lend itself well to CA's style especially with what would certainly be a weak turn-based element......plus Battle For Middle-Earth and Age of Mythology really set the bar pretty high for this theme.

Latin American history is certainly untapped, but probably mostly because combat was that different than in Europe....spears, club, arrows, etc. If, somehow they could make the turn-based element really intriguing, the theme certainly lends itself to some incredible scenary and bloody battles.

The one theme I think that perfectly lends itself to what CA does best would be........crazy as it sounds..........urban gang warfare..........set in a large fictional city. The political options would be practically limitless. I imagine something circa The Warriors only on a larger scale. Rather than individually named units or masses of nameless carbon copy "soldiers" you'd have Blocks. Each distinct city block within your control would send you their disgruntled teenagers as they came of age and they'd fight as a group and each would have their own style and flare and abilities. Hundreds of different blocks and control over the tougher blocks would be a source of major contention throughout. Get shakedown money from stores in your turf for money for upgrades or supplies or bribes. And, of course, have whatever objective you want.....for one.......to get a force large enough to storm City Hall and oust the corrupt mayor who's been forcing the city into a state of squallor..............or, even better, the more turf you own, the fewer disgruntled teenagers generated by each block until eventually there's only a handful of old school guys making each other extinct while prosperity gradually settles in on a slowly and visibly rejuvenating city. Whatever, you get the idea.

Star Wars: Total War

Meh ... seriously though, if set during the Clone Wars period you could have some huge battles, just look at the Battle of Geonosis in Attack of the Clones for example, that one was the biggest ground battle in the movies. And since the Star Wars universe is set on many planets, then that's maybe were the Total War series would go, for uncharted terrain. You could have the most symbolic / relevant planets of the Star Wars series, like Coruscant, Naboo and Yavin, and a couple others, and on each of them you'd have a single map. And you could build your Pirates Consortium, Republic (the Rebels), or a Galactic Empire (the Empire of course). Yay ? Nay ?

If not, then I have some ideas ...

Napoleonic: Total War

Gothic: Total War (set in a fantasy world à-la Warhammer, with fantasy-based creatures for example)

Warhammer 40,000: Total War (that one guys I am waiting for it since I heard about Rome: Total War, can't you just TRY to imagine HORDES of Greenies charging on foot at the eagerly awaiting Marines Chapter on the other side of the river filled with blood, in a foggy atmosphere ? I sure can !)

Even urban warfare, like a mod for a game that already has a unit system like that. Something like u have a main building, peasants making drugs, loading guns, fixing cars etc etc, having squads of carbon copies, then a regional commander in a car or something... then the war zone :D where theres no safe place to hide.

Some of my picks would be:

Shogun 2 (my fav was Shogun Total War)
China.... (unification of the waring factions)
Something in the middle east / India / Persia Please outside of Europe...

Or

Lord of the rings type game?
