I don't really see what direction the GF3 line will be going in the next few months. It already has the fastest memory on the market, so unless someone starts mass producing 3ns DDR, a GF3 'Ultra' line seems pretty far off. Sure, they can add slower versions, maybe with 5ns memory, but I doubt the 'regular' GF3 will cost any less than $300 for at least until Christmas. Am I wrong? I hope so, cus I have to buy a video card for the system I'm building in the next month, and it sure would be nice if something drastic happened to push the GF3 price way down before then (like a faster version of the card). Please let me know your opinions.

The GF3 is already priced at under $300 from several different venders.
Should be under $200 well before Thanksgiving.

Robs,
Really? Off Pricewatch, the best price now for a GF3 is like $340 shipped, and it is some no-name manufacturer. The Visiontek is $354 shipped. Where can I pick up a GF3 from a good manufacturer for less than $300? Thanks.

Pricewatch? Nah.
Anandtech Hot Deals forum is the only place to shop!
Check out that forum for deals like ELSA Gladiac 920 64MB GeForce 3 ** $299.16 ** at DELL , which just ended, but others come along everyday.

Sometimes you'll have to enter a discount coupon code, or use a rebate, but it works.

EDIT: Looks like the Dell deal may be back.:)

Is it even possible to sell the Geforce 3 for under $200? Considering the incredible complexity of the chip and the hugely expensive 64mb 230mhz DDR ram how could they posibly sell the board for under $200 without making a large loss?

Robs,
Thanks for the info man. I went ahead and scored the Elsa from Dell for $299 shipped. Although I don't know if it will be backordered or not. We'll see...

The main cost of the GF3 comes from the expensive memory. The chip is relatively cheap. NVidia sells those for $60-$80. By Thanksgiving it should be a lot lower.

I believe Samsung has started sampling 4ns DDR in volume at a very good price.
