What's next for ATi and nVidia?

I was just thinking, and I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this. What's coming up for ATi and nVidia? Is NV30 going to be released in September? What about ATi? Will R250 be coming very soon and R300 about the time of NV30? Any info on these products? I've heard that NV30 will have features acquired from 3dfx but beyond that, I know nothing. Anything known? Thansk!

I dont know, but I think you will soon need a seperate motherboard for the video cards! Some of these cards have more transistors than the cpus!

The R300 will be released about 2 months after the NV30 from what I've heard.
RV250 is due with the Radeon 8700/8800... and should be released around the time the GF4 Ti4200 is released. Rumoured release dates generally seem to quote late April/early May.

I'm looking to build a new system in late april or early may and I want to know if the Radeon will be a good step forward or a simple evolution with a higher clock speed?

The new Radeon 8700/8800 will be using faster memory, and it is based on the RV250 core. IMO, I don't think there is a performance, just a speed bump. Sure, there must be some tweaks in this core, but I generally suggest you stay away from it. I think you should look upon the Geforce 4 since it is currently the latest in technology.

That doesn't really answer when we will be seeing this card....

My best guess, by looking at Nvidias previous product cycles, is that we will be seeing this card next September.... but who knows

The R250 will hopefully be to the Radeon 8500 as what the 7500 is to the 7200 series. Higher clock, improved memory controller, major performance increase.
