What's new/hot in the area of Computer Forensics & Security?

For my final assignment of the year (a previous assignment had us learn to 'hack') in my Computer Forensics/Security class, I'm supposed to pick any topic in the area of forensics or security and write a general 5-page paper on it.

It's a pretty open-ended assignment, so I was wondering if anyone has heard anything of particular interest in the news lately that I could zero in on and write about. Ideas?

intrusion prevention/protection systems (taking IDS a step further)

also networks that scan computer/authenticate/verify patches & virus pattern files is the current big trend/push.

But I'm a network guy so that's what security means to me
