I am ready to install a new hard drive as a slave. I currently have 2 hard drives set as master slave. I want to take the small slave drive out after I back up the data. I will use drive wipe to erase everything on the pld small slave drive, then put in a box that I will install Simply Mepis on. My question is, do I need to instal windows on this new slave drive? The old slave drive had windows 98 already on it when it was added as the slave drive. I have XP Home w/SP2 on the master drive now. I will use this new(slave) drive for storing music, video and pics on, a media bucket if you will. Will I need to initialize the new drive? If so how is this done? The actual swapping of the drives and setting the jumpers, I understand. Both drives are IDE 7200 RPM drives. I just need more storage. The smaller drive that will go into the Simply Mepis Box is only 10 gigs, and just for me to play around with this new to me OS.
Both drives are on the same IDE channel. Any help will be welcomed. Thanks in advance.

All you have to do is to plug the disc in, with the jumpers set correctly and then reboot when windows tells you to

Hi, Slave drive does not have to have system files or Windoze if the Master has them and is the boot drive. MOST new drives will have to be partitioned and formated before Windoze will recognize them. Jim
