I want to purchase a new computer in the next 3-4 weeks, I was going to earlier but heard AMD was coming out with a couple new cores. My question is, based on my needs which core will be the best value?
I want to do a full upgrade, new cpu, mobo, ram, the works so I can use my current sys as a backup as I use it heavily for work. From all my research I want an AMD 64, just not sure which choice is best. I have my 2500 xp overclocked some and would like to overclock the new rig, if it would save some money, but I would much rather have stability so I don't mind paying more. I play a lot of games, but also work a lot with my computer, running up to 7 or 8 apps at once so I need some multitasking capability. I was considering the 3500 Clawhammer, but now I hear the 3700 San Diego won't be too much more.
So basically:
1( Is there any benefit to paying similar prices to get a Winnie or Hammer over a Venice or San Diego?
2( Any ideas on which will have the most overclockability?
3( Where do the sweet spots lie for each proc? Is there even enough info to ask this?
4( Any downside other than price to going with a 3700 San Diego if I choose not to OC my new comp? b( is it the only one with the 1mb cache?
5( About how much time will pass before there is a decent price drop on the older cores? ie Winnie and Hammer
6( Can somone explain the variations on the core speeds across the same #? ie the 4 3500s @ 2.0 and 2.2ghz?
More info
My budget is about $1500 maybe 2k but I want a really nice monitor
I also want to get a pretty decent vcard (suggestions?) if someone would like to suggest an entire build im all ears.
Thanks so much, I love this group you guys are awesome 🙂
P.S. Would it be stupid to put 2 raptors in raid?
sorry off topic...
P.P.S. another off topic, anyone know why the copyright on this is 2001?
