My problem is I cannot fit a 8800gt 512 into my $550 build budget, if I stick with the e6750. I could down grade to e6550 and upgrade from a 256 gt to a 512 gt. Does it make sense to lose a few mhz for a killer gpu? I'm a casual gamer and will not be hitting high res. I do believe that 512 will be a requirement within a year even at lower res.

If you don't overclock, then go with the E6550. I got an E6550 overclocked to 2.8GHz with the 8800GT 512MB. I can play UT 2007 at 1680x1050 without any problem. My only regret with getting the E6550 is that it has a 7x multiplier versus the 8x multiplier of the E6750. I don't want to overclock the RAM, so that's why I'm at 2.8GHz(400MHz x 7 = 2.8GHz). If I had the E6750, then I can go to 3.2GHz( 400MHz x 8 = 3.2GHz)

I'd say go for it, get the 8800gt 512mb with the e6550 and overclock the e6550. As long as you have decent ram. If you're going for a 2gb of ram, get the cheapest pair of crucial ballistix you can find, they all overclock to about the same. All you need is 7x multiplier with ram at 460 for a bit over 3.2ghz which will probably be at stock voltage with that cpu.
