SS can be made sustainable with very little tweaking, perhaps less of a tweak than the increased retirement age that was implemented under Reagan. Medicare is a much more serious long term problem.

What you're offering is that we are apparently incompetent, that we're incapable of implementing a single payer system as well as the French or other first world nations whose costs are lower and whose results are at least equal.
