Whats max overclock on X1800XL??

I just pieced a new computer for my friend consisting of a AMD Athlon X2 4400+ 2X1mb toledo with an ATI X1800XL and the full works. Well, in the ATI driver setup in the overdrive section I used to test max overclock through driver. It spans from the default clock of 500mhz to 575mhz and the memory goes from 495mhz to 550mhz. Well the card maxed out and did not heat up at all. It stays 87C to 89C regardless. Is there a way to OC more? BTW this is on a stock HSF!! I have it setup to only OC during 3d apps. Beautiful card.

From what I've seen of the forums and around the web, most people are running it at 550/550. It seems like you would need a aftermarket cooler like an Silencer or Zalman if you wanted to oc past those clocks even though they haven't made one yet for this particular series. And of course, there's watercooling too.

Thanks for the info. From your thread it seems like my card runs hot stock? But it OC's like a champ and doesn't increase at all? Maybe my case temps are high? Well that doesn't make sense either because the AMD actually runs quite cool.

some people have hit XT speeds on the card or higher it really depends how luckly you are and your OC skill level.

What are you guys using to oc your ATI video cards.

I have a X1800XL and want to know what could i use to oc my card.

I'm using ATI tool beta 13 and am at 585/635.
I've got one of the bugged cores so have to keep the core voltage below 1.2v and have the mem at 2v.
Totally stable and doesnt generate much more heat than at stock.

You will probably do better than mine because, as I said, mine has a dodgy core (failed xt) and doesnt overclock that well.

Edit: and well done for searching before posting!

i've run it at 625 / 720 stable. You can't use just ATI tool from what i've read. People on extremsystems have gotten much much higher, in the 700/800 range.

You can use ati tool to overclock and set voltages.
You have to disable the ati hotkey dohicky in services.msc

What did you use to overclock yours as thats a nice overclock?

I was using that "ATI CCC", it was just too slow for me then i installed "ATI Tray Tools" but i don't think it suports my video card (ATI X1800XL-256) yet cause it does not show my cards temp and i can't oc with it.

So if i download this ATI Tool, will it show my X1800XL's temp and allow me to oc it.

Thanks for the info.

Beta 14 is out.

It will allow you to overclock it but AFAIK the artifact scanning doesnt work so dont set it to automatically find the highest settings.

And go easy on the volts.

Oh and good luck:thumbsup:

Edit: aparantly artifact scanning is fixed. (I havnt tried it yet)

And the ati tool forum is helpfull
