What's it take to get in the FBI?

A few of my friends are considering getting into the FBI, but I'm curious what it takes to get into the FBI. Do grades even matter? Their GPA isn't so hot.

They look for four main recruit categories IIRC.

1. Attorneys
2. CPA's
3. Those with foreign language skills, particularly difficult languages like Arabic, Chinese, etc.
4. An undefined category intended for those not fitting the other 3 categories but with particular skills that are needed on a case-by-case basis (pilot license, those not fitting other categories, etc).

You can find a sample, online preliminary examination here.

i took the test and scored 50% .. half the nation was saved! the other half was.. well.....is no more

im a lousy FBI agent lol

The eyesight requirement is uncorrected and you can have surgery to correct it. That is what I plan to do in the future after I finish my degree. I actually am going to work as a regular cop because the FBI isn't the type of atmosphere that I want. Secondly the FBI likes Criminal Justice degrees, Forensic science degrees, and any related Justice degrees. I know someone who interviewed with the FBI but after talking with him he decided he didn't want to deal with the travel and constant moves.

Entry Requirements:

To carry out its mission, the FBI needs men and women who can fill a variety of demanding positions. To qualify as an FBI Special Agent, you must be a U.S. citizen, or a citizen of the Northern Mariana Islands, at least 23 and not have reached your 37th birthday on appointment. Candidates must be completely available for assignment anywhere in the FBI's jurisdiction, have uncorrected vision not worse than 20/200 (Snellen) and corrected 20/20 in one eye and not worse than 20/40 in the other eye. All candidates must pass a color vision test.

Special Agent applicants also must meet hearing standards by audiometer test. No applicant will be considered who exceeds the following: a) average hearing loss of 25 decibels (ANSI) at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hertz; b) single reading of 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hertz; c) single reading of 35 decibels at 500 Hertz; and d) single reading of 45 decibels at 4000 Hertz.

Candidates must possess a valid driver's license, and be in excellent physical condition with no defects which would interfere in firearm use, raids, or defensive tactics.

Applicants must possess a four-year degree from a college or university accredited by one of the regional or national institutional associations recognized by the United States Secretary of Education.

Critical Skill Needs:

Candidates who otherwise meet entry requirements and possess one or more of the following critical skills are currently deemed essential to address our increasingly complex responsibilities and will be prioritized in the hiring process.

1. Computer Science and other Information Technology specialties
2. Engineering
3. Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc.)
4. Foreign Language Proficiency (Arabic, Farsi, Pashtu, Urdu, Chinese [all dialects], Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese)
5. Foreign Counterintelligence
6. Counterterrorism
7. Military Intelligence experience
8. Accounting/Finance

Although the above listing includes the most critical investigative skill needs, the FBI continues to be a diverse agency with employees possessing various experiences. Candidates who possess skills and experience such as accounting, law, business, education, and health care are also encouraged to apply.

No armed services here...but I have mad skillz with handgun!

Honestly though, my uncle works for the FBI...booorrriiinnggg is name of the game for him a pretty everyone he know's. Same with a lot of the CIA jobs.

Bzzt. Wrong answer.

I have a criminal justice degree and they wouldn't even talk to me out of college.

Read the fifth post down by glenn1. That is exactly what they are looking for. I recently reapplied now having work experience, which is another thing they will take in lieu of what was mentioned above.

They talked to my cousin and he has a CJ degree. Did you not read that part of my post?

Edit-

1. Computer Science and other Information Technology specialties
2. Engineering
3. Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc.)
4. Foreign Language Proficiency (Arabic, Farsi, Pashtu, Urdu, Chinese [all dialects], Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese)

7. Military Intelligence experience
8. Accounting/Finance

That is the FBI's priority list from their own website. I am majoring in CJ and minoring in Chemistry. I have thought of picking up a second minor in CS or IS as well. My goal, however, is not to work for the FBI.
