What's it going to take to beat the Iraqi insurgents?

I read stories like

this from the NY Times
and

this on Iraqi National Guard at CNN.

The casualties keep mounting, insurgents are running rife in the Sunni triangle, and no matter how many of those bastards we kill they just keep bombing, sabotaging, and ambushing. Did I forget to say that the Iraqi police and national guard have proven almost completely useless? Police stations get overrun & looted daily and much of the guard deserts their posts.

What do you think it will take to beat the insurgents? I just don't know how many more troops we need, but whatever it is right now, it isn't enough. Should there be a strategy change?

I feel like Iraq is a quagmire 🙁

During congressional testimony, Army Gen. Eric Shinseki stated a few hundred thousand troups. His civilian counterpart, Army secretary Thomas White concurred with that assessment during later testimony. Of course, both guys were subsequently thrown under the bus by Don Rumsfeld, who obviously knows better than to trust the "judgment of his generals".

The way I see it, the US broke Iraq, and it's the US' job to fix it now. The insurgents are causing chaos in the country. They are terrorizing civilians and occupation forces alike and sabotaging infrastructure. The US has to beat them as part of fixing Iraq. There is no choice.

Why on earth do you think they can be beat?

If they put a million boots on the ground, they would just stop fighting. When they leave, they start up again.

What's it going to take to beat the Iraqi insurgents?

Probably acts of brutality that would make Saddam Hussein blanche, recoil in revulsion...

The upside is that there will be plenty of room in Iraq to resettle the Palestinians, whether they like it or not...

Unrestricted warfare against civillian population centers. Kill indiscriminately and often like Saddam did and eventually they will give up.

Of course those pussy liberals won't allow that.

Time.

The goal of the Insurgency is to use that against us....If their counterparts here in the good ole US of A keep doing their part, they may even succeed. 🙁

The US as whole didn't break it...I or anyone that I know didn't break it and neither did I or anyone else I know wanted it broken. Bush and his people broke it.

Sorry but the American public does not want their soldiers nation building for 15 to 20 years. Then again the British were there longer then we were and they didn't succed. In fact they ended up being hated by everyone in Iraq and everyone else everywhere else in the world they stuck their nose into. Do we really want to follow their lead ??

If it were up to people like you, you'd nuke every civillian population centers and be done with it.

Check sarcasm meter.

What's it going to take to beat the Iraqi insurgents?
Not killing their familys and sending our troops home to their own familys, hopefully in one piece.
Where they should have been in the first place.
And less oil pumping from other countrys far away.

Odd, that post was pulling a full 10/10 on my sarcasm meter.

IMHO there is no beating them. We have to stop killing them. Yes I know this is easier said than done, given the present circumstances. Everytime we kill one of them, like the hydra, two more appear. This is because when you kill one, his brothers, sons, cousins join what they call the resistance. It wouldn't be much differant if we were invaded. Not all of us would resist, but when we saw our fathers, mothers, etc slaughtered, then most of us would join the resistance.

what an a$$hole

referring to the OP, what did you think would happen when a sovereign nation would be invaded? Iraqis would greet an invading force with flowers and sweets?

oh wait... wasnt that what Mr. Rumsfield thought?

Maybe we should resettle all the "Jeweish settlement" and youself overthere.

NYTimes - more attacks

Violence surged through central and northern Iraq on Saturday as a tenacious insurgency led by Sunni Arabs kept up relentless assaults in several major cities, including Baghdad, Ramadi and Falluja, which the Americans devastated during an intense weeklong offensive aimed at routing the insurgency.

WTF :|

Y'all need to turn on your sarcasm detectors, maybe review some of my other posts...

The Bush invasion of Iraq defies the lessons of history and common decency- not that any of that matters to the good christian soldiers now running the Admin...

Anybody who thinks we can "win" in Iraq without a great deal of blood is delusional, just like our CinC.
