whats is a good motherboard for a pentium 4?

I was planning on buying a pentium 4 around april and a ton of other goodies. Just curious because I am sure there will be cool motherboards by then, but for now whats a good motherboard. Is there like a motherboard guide on anandtech or an other site. Thanks

I'll leave the "you're an idiot" posts to the others, so I'll just say the following:

The P4 was just publicly released, and as of yet, there aren't many mobos. By april, there will be many more to choose from. Asking now would be useless, since the choices in April would be much better.

Currently I would have to say ASUS P4T. I will refrain from saying anything about purchasing a P4 at this time.

leaving yourself wide open like a "well you get the point"!! I think you know what I was gonna say haha..

Nate

get the asus p4t. That way you dont have to buy a new case since it has that plate instead of requiring the 4 holes in the new cases that all the other boards do.

With the correct RAM timings, the ASUS P4T has been shown to significantly outperform Intel's Intel's D850GB Garibaldi motherboard, where a P4 1.4GHz on the P4T is mcuh faster than a P4 1.5GHz on the Intel board.

Ok, I guess this is my line.

Why a P4, it sucks, it offers nothing over the Athlon or the P4 other than a 400mhz QDR bus that makes bloody RDRAM look a little useful. Save some money and get the fastest Athlon you can get, it will be faster than a P4 anyhow. With the extra money you could then buy some Rambus stock, your money is better spent in that.... well not realy

Even if P4 didn't suck in all current applications bar Q3 and Sandra memory Stream test (practical app, might I add 🙂), it's waste of money to buy the P4 in the current Socket form factor which is about to be replaced by another one as early as Q2-Q3/2001. By then there might actually be practical apps out there in which P4 shines. At current market situation IMO there is only one sensible alternative for people in market for a high-end computer: 1-1.2GHz Athlon Tbird.

Out of the current P4 mobos the Asus P4T looks the sweetest, however. Kudos to Asus, outperforming Intel's flagship board is quite an achievement.

Isn't that mobo over 300 freakin bucks though? That's what I saw somewhere, if that's true you can get a 1g TBird and mobo!!

Intel is already going to replace the P4 with a new type making it obsolete before it really has a chance to get going. I'm not sure what's going on over there at Intel but I recommend immediate drug testing!

guys, he asked what p4 board to get. its a simple question. Maybe he doesnt like AMDs. Personally i'd buy a pentium 4 over AMD or just an intel for that matter, if it was a lot cheaper. The only way as it is right now to make an intel as cost effective as an AMD is to go overclocked vs, non overclocked. But maybe money isnt an issue with him
