Whats involved in Car Detailing?

Detailing depends on what all you have done. I have seen some detailing packages that cost up to almost $300. Those packages included detailed cleaning in all cracks with q-tips. They even removed door handles and things like that to clean in them.

I detail my car about twice a year, I mean really let her have it, and it's HARD. Takes pretty much all day. So the high prices are to be expected. A detail should have nothing less than:
-Wash with a grease remover such as Dawn to remove any previous waxes
-Complete removal of any marks left from dead bugs or bird droppings. 3M products are good for this. They have to be removed, otherwise you wax over them and they eat at your paint from UNDER your protective coating.
-A cleaner wax step, this is pretty much the same as above, but the Meguir's wax that I use for this isn't as harsh.
-A polish wax step (this is what makes your car shine, NOT the wax)
-A coat of carnuba wax or synthetic sealant (Klasse)

Detailing is extensive and controversial almost. There's so many different products out there, and half of them are snake oils. My actual recommendation to you...Don't bother unless you're selling the car and want it to look its best. I've fallen into the detailing trap where I HAVE to keep every bit of my car clean, and it irks me to no end when it gets dirty. Don't send yourself down this road!
