I have a Sanyo SCP-8100 and that is all scratched up and is beginning to fail on a consistent basis.

Questions:

- Will I be abel to transfer my phone book into a new phone?
- Who has the best promotions in terms of plans right now?
- I'd like to keep the cost under $200 and do not need a ton of gimmicky bells and whistles

- Just select the "Store to SIM' option on your current phone and then transfer it when u put ur SIM in your new phone
- Cingular has pretty good plans....i think the pay as u go one is like $0.10 per minute flat...
- Again...Cingular offers plans that come with phones...also check out ebay and amzon for phones...or even the FS/FT forum and buy an unlocked one

Sprint phones don't use sims so your instructions don't work here.

Spooner, go to the Hot Deals forum and do a search for "cell".

Check out the thread by Fis and the link in the first post. Good deals through the Inphonic Friends and Family link...also on the first page of Hot Deals right now there is a topic for Amazon.com cell phone deals.

to transfer your contacts follow these instructions....

1) Turn on your phone
2) Open address book
3) Get pen and paper
4) Write them down
5) Add them to your new phone by typing them in, or if its smart enough take a photo and use letter recognition software to organise them all.

:D

dont know about contracts for you cuz im in the UK...we dont have Cingular or Sprint here, they too small time....hehe

but if you want a nice device, iMate's Jam is a cool compact PDA/smartphone.....mine is called the MDA Compact as its been rebranded by T-Mobile so they can do it exclusive in the UK...lol but its handy, not too large either, has a big screen tho, plus 1.3mp camera, uses Windows Pocket PC, has WM player....and an SD card slot, can accept a Wifi SD card which is rather neat, means u can hook it up to your home network if you use wireless as a hotspot and save money on gprs...lol....or use it same way in most hotels and airports who use wireless hotspots now....cool beans stuff....
sizewise its not bad, quite thin for what it does, most of its fascia is the screen which is about 2.8in diagonal, there is a small amount of space at the bottom and top for cursor/phone dial/hangup buttons, but no numberpad, and a little flashy light at top telling u if its on or low battery or bluetooth activated etc.....u can slip it in a pocket, but its a little weighty....comes with a nice belt clip pouch tho thats rather sweet for a freebie..

anyway, i like it...heh
oh, has 64mb onboard memory for programs/storage combination....but as i said you can add cards.....65k colour screen....erm, cant remember anymore, has msn messenger tho which is a good reason to get it..heh

Oh, I should've mentioned...the best part about that Friends & Family linky is that the prices are low/free without rebates being involved..or if they are, it will be to make money.

Very convincing argument there :p

<---- T-Mobile Customer

Just give sprint a call and ask about new phone deals as well as transferring numbers. If they give you a bunch of crap say "screw you, I'm switching to <insert cell company here> cause they will give me a free new phone!" or something to that effect. Sprint has a decent retentions group so you will probably get something out of it, unlike if you tried that with Cingular or T-Mobile (love the service but they are stingy with new phones).

Good luck!

depending on your new phone, usually Sprint stores can transfer information between phones. Sometimes it doesn't work and some phones are incompatible, but the Sanyo 8100 is a common phone and they can most likely do it. At the very least, they will be able to print up a paper with your contacts and their respective phone numbers.

Also if you have had your phone for 18 months with sprint they will give you $150 or so for a new phone

:p T-Mobile has the worst coverage overall in the US.

But it really comes down to whomever covers best in your area, so if you're happy with Sprint, stay with Sprint, and vice versa.

That being said, you won't be able to keep your address book if you leave Sprint because they do not have SIM cards. Even if you did have a SIM card, I don't know if you can switch carriers with it. If you're staying with Sprint, they will transfer the names and numbers for you.

As for a new phone, I'd look into the 8200 which is the successor to your phone. Your phone gets the best customer satisfaction ratings of any Sprint phone, and the 8200 is the next best. You may even be able to keep your charger accessories, but I'm not sure about that.

They'll give you the same deal as a new customer. That doesn't always mean it's $150.

Go to Costco. They have great deals for members and an amazing warranty program as well :)

I regret not going through them, I bought mine from Amazon.com

Also, I am having a bad experience with Cingular so I don't reccommend them.

Sprint has the worst customer service.. the worst phones... non SiM non GSM. and the worst plans...

coverage is just fine.. down south for T mobile..

personally i've seen just about every phone there is with every carrier, and when it comes to phones that I like, Sprint > *. I've had great customer service, and my plan probably kicks your plans ass. So yeah, it's funny that you try to factually state something that is so disputable. They have customers for a reason
