Did your buddy bet that water was heavier?

If so, you're both idiots. A pound of water is just as heavy as a pound of alcohol.

alcolhol is heavier

if you pour 99% isopropyl alcohol in water, you can see the different phase and the alcohol settling at the bottom

Incidentally, if you're talking about density, which I would imagine you meant, the density of water is approximately 1000kg per cubic meter (at 4 degrees celsius. colder or warmer, the density is a little bit lower)

The density of ethyl alcohol is 785.06 kilograms per cubic meter. Methyl (wood) alcohol is 786.51. And, the density of propyl alcohol is 799.96 kilograms per cubic meter. Each of these densities is for 25 degrees Celsius.

edit: so, since you lost, argue that it's a tie since neither is "heavier"
