I think if you apply the thermal paste correctly, and have the heatsink attached properly, you should have a lower cpu temp than that. I still have some 3 year old GlobalWin HS that they don't even make anymore on my wife's T-Bird 1Ghz (which supposedly runs really hot) and it idles around 32 C. I used Artic Silver II.

You can't easily change your CPU fan speed unless you have a CPU fan that is adjustable.

Actually, you can probably change your cpu fan speed by plugging it into a fan controller but I think yours is probably already spinning it's little heart out.

those temps seem a little high for an amd setup. especially a non overclocked one. re apply the thermal compound and make sure your heatsink is mounted properly. for that setup, i would expect temps to be around 43 idle.

That seems really high. I have a 1700+ @ 2260 and under load I barely break 40C. I have an alpha8045 w/ a Vantec Tornado. Granted it is really loud, but your temps shouldnt be that high.

Those temps taken from the average amd setup, it would seem a bit higher than most. I have my system overclocked from 1700+ to 2700+ and it goes from idle 54C to 61/62C load. This is with a case temp of 51idle. The reason I would have to say my temps are so high is the fact that i'm using quiet not as powerful fans, combined with the fact I got a few heat generators in the case.

Heatsink: Alpha 8045 w/ whatever fan that came with the Enlight 7327.

Been running this system for a few months now rock stable, so i'm not really complaining :) (knock on wood)

Same here, I'm using a nice "cold-forged" Taisol heatsink.

You failed to tell us how your were reading the temperature and what core the Athlon was...Palomino or Throughbred. Is your mobo reading the in die thermistor or one under the socket?

Besides, that ORBs aren't that good. I'm not surprised your temps didn't drop.

I have AXP 2000+ Palamino with SLK-800 heatsink and a very quiet 25dBa 80mm fan. I get 42C idle and 47C under load, but it's summer... I usually get much lower temp during winter.

I think your temp is too high.

I am a new builder with a lot to learn.
Just put together a new system with an AMD XP2400+ with a stock fan and an Albatron KX400-8X.
One fan from intake and one fan at exhaust with a single fan PS.
My temp goes as high as 59 with the case closed and it shut down two times before.
Is the stock fan any good? I am ordering more fans for my case now.

I use a Vantec Aeroflow on my XP 2400 and my temps are from 40C to 44C even under load. I have yet to see anything hotter since I installed that HSF. I also have 4 case fans to help keep everything cool.

Asus seems to give about +10 C higher temp than other motherboards. I think other motherboards just give false lower readings.

If your cpu temp is 59 C, your problem is the same as razortone's. You need to either properly apply the thermalpaste and make sure the heatsink is secured correctly, or you need to replace your heatsink. More fans won't make a difference if your cpu cooler isn't doing it's job.

I would think you could get better temps even with a stock HS/ Fan, but I guess maybe not. At least you have a good excuse to upgrade :)
