Well folks this is my first time posting in this particular forum and I must say that this is not a pleasure call.

Ok here is my complaint: In the last several weeks there have been many HIGHLY HEATED discussions regarding P4 vs. T-bird threads. These threads haven't been necessarily constructive but entertaining none the less. From all of this there has been one thing in particular that really bothers me it would deal with a certain person being banned for a week we will now call this person Mr. X for the remainder of this discussion.

This banning comes about from Mr. X getting his name and address posted on the forum in a particular thread and outwardly threatened to get his A$$ KICKED. After emailing a moderator to let them know what had been done and calling the person that posted his name a few choice words he got the short banning. Now I am not disagreeing with the banning of Mr.X for use of profanity I am however disagreeing with the NON-BANNING of the person who posted his name, address, and the threat.

Now mind you the person that posted Mr. X's name and address had to look it up on the internet. So he did it to purposely provoke Mr. X into the tyraid that produced the profanity. I think that this whole thing is wrong and I beleive that the person who did the posting should have gotten BANNED at least as long as Mr. X if not for eternity.

The following are some of the rules and regulations that have been adopted by Anandtech these rules and regulations are SUPPOSED to be up held by the MODERATORS. I would assume that the MODERATORS are to uphold these RULES AND REGULATIONS WITHOUT FAVORITISM OR PREJUDICE:

<< You agree that you will not use our forums to post any material, or links to any material, which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, HARRASING, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, THREATENING, INVASIVE OF A PERSON'S PRIVACY, or otherwise violative of any law. >>

So I ask: Why is it that one person is banned and the other is allowed to go on his merry way as if he never did anything wrong??

Mr. X might be banned for a week, but if someone posted his address and threatend him, that person should be banned forever...

My 2 cents...

Yeah that is not cool at all. No one has the right to threaten another person on these forums. This is a place to make deals not to argue and take out your personal feelings.

frustrated2,

I am the moderator who locked NOS440's account. While we do not approve of the actions of the other party in this matter, the information he posted is publically available. If NOS440's wanted to complain, he should have emailed us. We would have dealt with it. Instead, he made multiple posts that were abusive and inflammatory while contributing nothing to the thread. He was given a one week time out to think about anger management. I reviewed the thread at the time. Aside from the personal information, I did not find anything posted by the other party that showed that level of hostility. The post may have been edited, but that is all I found at the time, and I acted as I saw fit.

Three days ago, NOS440 re-registered as EightSecClub. That account is now locked as well, and NOS440's time out has been extended another week. In doing so, he has extended his disrespect to us. This is not acceptable. If he registers again before his time out is up, he will be banned permanently.

So posting personal information that is publicly available is allowed here? I agree with frustrated2, posting someone's personal information is not something to be taken lightly. The person that did that should at least be banned for a certain amount of time, if not permanently. It could lead to ID theft, which is a very serious matter.

Well Mr. Moderator at the expense that you may ban me to I am going to set this straight it seems to me that you don't have the facts straight. I just happened to be at NOS440's house when all of this happened and I read the posts that were written (that were edited shortly there after) and I also watched NOS send the moderators this email:

<< Yes I am NOS440 on the Forum and would like you to look into the last few posts by AdamK47 - 3DS at this thread http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=28&threadid=337870 if this is allowed to stand then it is just wrong. My personal address and name should not be put in the eyes of all the internet to read. >>

There was not an answer or anything done about the problem until you banned NOS440 regardless if you think that people's names and addresses etc. are public knowledge it says right in YOUR BYLAWS that this sort of thing is NOT ALLOWED and besides the point if it doesn't matter about personal information how come your handle is not "your first and lastname.... Anandtech Moderator"?????

I have watched the moderators turn their backs on alot of stuff around here in the last month or two it is funny to me that this was made out to be such a big deal when I see other things happening that are much the same.

If I didn't know better I would say that the Powers that be were running this forum now. I am also betting that if you weren't personal friends with the other party involved then they would have been banned also.

I raise some interesting points here and I don't see how you can say that the other person did nothing wrong. How did you get to be moderator anyway???

I think posting someones personal information is a big no-no.

ID Theft alone is enough of a reason, but worse, it is rude...

My 2 cents...

The following is a link to that thread so you all can be the judge. I have made my decision on the matter. THE MODERATOR MADE A MISTAKE or a BAD DECISION one or the other IMHO
