I have Windows XP Home Edition and plan on replacing my mobo, CPU, and memory. What's going to happen when I reinstall Windows XP?

Thanks,

You'll have to re-activiate Windows XP for sure but not sure what you mean by what's going to happen. Could you clarify?

I think I know what you mean! I had to call MS and gt them to reactivate my XP office package after I change my CPU and MB about 8 months ago.

Re-activation, or re-install. you could try un-installing the components from XP before you upgrade.

probably not worth the time

id do a reinstall over the current windows directory if you dont have/cannot backup what you need

if i was doing a new mobo id backup and format though, to ensure things go smooth as possible

I did this a while back. Did a clean install on the upgraded system, connected to the net, hit "activate now", boom it was over. Really quite painless. :)

btw: This was an OEM version of XP Pro.

Installed WinXP Pro on this machine once, activated thru inet, changed videocard and added RAID controller with drives, after clean install had to call MS to activate OS, it was saying I exceeded number of installs. Weird, since I only did it once before and nly on this machine.

I did a motherboard/chip/ram upgrade on my system and when I booted it up again XP Pro just detected all my hardware again. I had to add a few drivers, but other than that no re-registration.
