A Decent Mobo that OCs well, has firewire, usb2, sata, AGP, PCI-X, PCI-X16 and any other new technologys that ive forgotten
PCI Express is what you want, not PCI-X. Different technologies.

Probably some kind of dual Opteron system when PCI Express gets standardized and I can get a decent video card with it. Just a guess:

Dual 2.5GHz Opteron
4GB DDR
2x 15k U320 drives
18" LCD
Nvidia 6500 (or whatever they're going to call their card at that time)

Ah.
Thanks for the correction.
What are the chances of finding a mobo that supports both old PCI (for my Audigy), AGP (for my 9700pro), and the new PCI Express standards for new addin cards and the X16 version for future gfx cards?
Will they be making mobos like that?

The Grantsdale chipset based motherboards will feature two or three regular PCI slots, 2 PCI Express X1 slots and one PCI Express for Graphics X16 slot.

AGP is out.

Do you think that there will be a chipset that will support what you said, and AGP?
Cos i was planning on using my 9700pro for at least another year, if not longer.

Nope. PCI Express X16 completely replaces AGP...there won't be AGP on PCI Express boards.

Don't worry about your video card too much; Grantsdale won't be out until 2004. By then, all video cards should be available as PCI Express. nVidia and ATi have both announced that future products will be PCI Express based, although I would think they would be releasing cards with both interfaces for a while (like what happened with PCI and AGP).

Im buying in 2004 though! So i`ll have to buy a new video card then? Not too happy about that, i spent alot of money on my 9700pro, and now i`ll have to ditch it after only a year.

r9800pro, just in time for HL2. either that or the new radeons that supposably will have a HL2 bundle, depends how much they are and how much r9800 drops (if at all) when they arrive. gf3ti200 going into the cupboard.

tempting to get a nforce2 to replace the KT266a, but cant really justify the cost when everything works fine and the only prob is it wont overclock my 2400xp at all. 🙁

but then...

bah crap. I was anticipating having the vid card for at least 18,months, and well into my next CPU. this really f*'s up my upgrade cycle 🙁 this is not good at all, very much a pain in the rear. would even be ok-ish if the PCI-express invasion was happening now, could at least get the new mobo now and not have problems. damn damn damn damn, what to do?

Thats sorta my problem as well.

DVD +/- Burner, probably on Black Friday..$50 after MIR??? 🙂

Major system overhaul is probably not going to be until Christmas '04 at the earliest..

Might pick up a new video card when some new games I wanna play come out (particluarly Doom3 and Halflife2).

I've got my eye on the Radeon 9100 128MB or the 9700 at the moment. Just waiting to see how the performance plays out, and what the price points of these cards are at when these new games come out.

Just yesterday I bought a gamepad with an analog stick because keyboard controls for Midnight Club 2 suck arsehole 😉 I just got Logitech's lowest end model that has an analog stick. Nothing even remotely fancy, but it gets the job done.

I also got a nice shiny new Logitech MX500 Mouse becuase I felt like it 😀

next week. a whole new rig. Retaining my monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers (though i might upgrade in the winter) TBSC and hdd. Gone stop by CC and check out some hdd deals.

Antec Case
Abit NF7-S Rev2
Barton 2500+
512 MB PC3200 Corsair XMS
Radeon 9700 Pro
SLK800A + 80mm Panaflo
NEC 1300A DVD+/- R/RW

I have < 2gb free with 80 gb(2x40gb drives) of hd space. Haven't decided whether I'll go SATA(requiring a controller card) or not, but a 120 gb HD is likely my next upgrade. Barring the untimely death of my monitor or something. 🙁

You do realize that DVD writers are not rated the same as CD writers? a 4x will burn a 4.7gig DVD in around 15 minutes. You are going to be waiting a very very long time 😉

Cool, never knew that. I had fears of 5-6 hour burns! 😀
