Hi,
I was wondering whats going to be the next big upgrade that you lot are going to do to your rigs, and when.
Heres mine.

Between Feb 14th(pay day) and march, latest i`ll be doing my yearly big upgrade. It`ll include;

A CPU rated at, at least 3ghz (or XP3000). Maybe Prescott or Athlon64.
A Decent Mobo that OCs well, has firewire, usb2, sata, AGP, PCI-X, PCI-X16 and any other new technologys that ive forgotten.
1gb of whatever memory the above mobo takes.
Asetek WaterChill KT-12(cpu+mobo+video). Or something better depending on whats out.

Now...what about you guys/gals.

I'm set for a while, I think. I'll probably look into getting a DVD+/-RW drive around Christmas time. Santa, are you listening? :)

Only thing I`m getting real soon is probably a new digital camera, upgrade wise not until the Athlon 64 and PCI Express boards are here, 1GB of ram and new HD with a new black coolermaster aluminium case with LED fans for it .

Check my rig and you'll see what I just did this month after my trusty old K7S5A died from failed mofset capacitors.

A change from AMD to Intel CPU made sense to me at this point.
The price differential is no longer there and it seems you can get a top-running system going with less heat and noise via Intel. And, although I ultimately went with the superb Zalman HSF, the stock Intel HSF was impressively easy to install and fairly efficient.

I'm cetainly not looking for a debate on these issues, just outlining my thinking for those considering upgrades of their own.

I wil be further upgrading my video card when HL2 finally comes out.
Still undecided whether to go with a top nVidia or ATI card.

Waiting for the DX9 cards to drop a bit in price, then I'll be selling off my trusty ol' Ti4200. :(

Waiting as long as possible, yes. The difference for me being my good 'ol Ti4200 gets handed down to my son.
We have a trickle down economy in this house.

My next major upgrade will be a FX 5900 Ultra... But in the minor league, I plan on replacing my 450w ISO ps w/ a sleeved Zalman from performancepc.com... As well as some sleeved Zalman 80mm fans.... I just built 2 new computers within the last 2 or 3 months... and got a new 16ms monitor about 2 weeks ago... But I'm a computer nut, so upgrades are every month for me...

Well I just build a brand new rig (my 1st real new pc in like 4 1/2 years!!), so I'm happier than a pig in its own excrement.

But this is an easy question: DVD-/+R Drive. But I really don't want to buy one until they get to a 'good enough' write speed, like maybe 12-16X range. I have no idea how long this will take. And of course there has to be DVD-R media to support the drive or I won't buy the drive. And honestly, I won't buy a 16X DVD-R drive until It's sub-$200 and is a GOOD drive, so maybe were talking early 2005 (Jeeze, maybe I put to many damn filters on my next purchase:wine;)

And thats my $0.04

I have had my current computer for almost three years now and it is coming time to upgrade. I have been thinking about an Nforce2 board with a good 1gig of ram, radeon 9600 pro or greater and a barton 2500+ but I think I am going to hold off even longer. I want to see the radeon 9900's potentital and the new 64's coming around the corner, I am sure there are going to be some nicer SATA 10,000+ rpm drives coming out in the near future as well

You do realize that DVD writers are not rated the same as CD writers? a 4x will burn a 4.7gig DVD in around 15 minutes. You are going to be waiting a very very long time ;)

It's getting time for me to build a new rig. One of the old rigs will be leaving the house, plus my 1.5 year old rig isn't cutting it all that well anymore. I'll probably build the new one within the next month or so. It's probably going to be have a 2.4c, is7, 512mb of pc3200 or better, and I'll transfer my current ti4200 over to it.

Power by ATI 9800 non-pro that I should be able to upgrade to a Pro with a simple bios upgrade. Ordered yesterday, arriving Wednesday probably.

Coming from my current Geforce4 MX-440, I'll be going from the back of the bus to the front!

A 2.4C or a 2.6C or maybe just a C processor to go with my DDR 400 and Asus P4P800 deluxe and a ATI Radeon 9800 NP
