What's going on???

I noticed some weird activity on my computer. A folder was created called C:\windows\temp\hiq and Vivdence started itself out of nowhere. My cookies were also reset. I went to the command prompt and typed in "net share" because I was curious. It turns out all my hard drives are shared. There's a remark that says "Default Share." I unplugged the ethernet cable and checked the event viewer.

There were some weird errors that just occured yesterday and today. One reads

"A request has been submitted to promote the computer to backup when it is already a master browser. "

and the other

"The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer DINS that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{765F2772-8DDB-48E6-827. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced."

Now the computer DINS is my notebook which is connected to my network through a Netgear WAP. I just left it on all day working on SETI units (for Team AT of course) and it has been sitting right next to me all this time. I also unshared all my HDs, but they are once again reshared after rebooted. I tried to modify the permissions and it says "This has been shared for administrative purposes. The permissions cannot be set."

Well I found out that when I access my computer from my other XP machine, the shared drives are not visible. So perhaps that is a good thing. The shares are being created by a Server service that is being automatically started when I boot. If I disable the service, all my shares go away, but I cannot browse any other computer on my network until I start it again.

Maybe I'm just worrying about nothing?
