The only reason there was a 'controversy' was because it was midterm election time. Wasn't it approved/funded for like a year ago?

Maybe people realized that George W Bush was right and we aren't at war with moderate/liberal Muslims, especially not New York ones?

What is left to say? We cannot force them to cancel the project without undermining our form of government and our freedoms. Should the media continue to report that people opposed to the project are still opposed to it, and still powerless to prevent it?

Heard today on the radio that the builders were asking for $5M in federal aid to build it...

No.

The reason (or at least the immediate reason) it popped up in the news at that time was because that's when the planning/zoning (or wharever name) board gave final approval for the go-ahead with the project.

I do not know what is going on with it now. But hopefuly they are handling it like the local matter it is and working to get a resolution to every (reasonable) persons' satisfaction.

Appears to be true according to the link below your post. Sickening.

You mean sickening like when Jewish Community Centers and Christian Centers get federal funding? Because they do.... the public money however must be allocated to cover costs for the "secular" parts of the building and not the chapel or temple section.
