I just heard that there were suicide bombers. I was thinking hippy protesters at first too, but now it looks more and more like the work of al-aqueda animals.

http://www.conjur.com/blog/2005/07/07/terror-attack-on-londons-underground/
It appears that up to seven Underground (London's subway system) stops were targeted. Casualties galore (at least 90 reported at one station alone with two fatalities reported). This is all very preliminary but it's obviously an orchestrated attack. Some of the stops included Liverpool, Aldgate, and Kings Cross. There are reports of people still trapped in the Tube and the national morning news shows keep showing looped footage of survivors receiving assistance.

Footage has also been shown of the top of one of London's famous double-decker buses having been destroyed by an explosion.

Now, whether the attack was timed to coincide with the opening of the G8 today or whether Paris, London, Madrid, NYC, etc. were going to be hit one day after the announcement of the location of the 2012 Olympics is also unclear.

What is clear, though, is that the fvcking BS rhetoric from this admin that "America and the world are safer" is now completely and utterly without basis. Attacks like this will continue no matter what countries are invaded and no matter what sanctions are imposed upon others. There will always be a fringe element seeking to cause death and destruction.

Better security at home at ports, chemical plants, transportation hubs, trucking industry, etc. is what we need, not more bombs and bullets.

Here's an early report from CNN:

My biggest concern at the moment: that these "small" explosions are a diversion for the "big one" yet to come.

If these little bombs, though terrible, are the best Al Queda can do, I would say we're doing a pretty good job of limiting what fire power they can obtain.

Edit: As you can see, the liberal Conjur chooses to see the glass half-empty while I choose to see it half-full. So far, I would say this event today is NO 9/11.

Obviously you are also willing to show yourself as some kind of partisan loon who would make such a ludicrous claim.

Tell that to the families of the dead in London.

It's a simple question of order of magnitude.

Planes/skyscrapers/3,000 dead vs. ???/buses/"at least two deaths reported" on CNN now.

Why is everyone so quick to label this a terrorist attack? So liberal media (like Conjur) can quickly say that everything we've done is a failure? Who isn't to say this is not the work of G8 protesters whose desire to disrupt the meeting is really succeeding.

Conjur, we've disagreed in the past. If you think that these terrorists would for some reason be good people who did not want to harm westerners if we didnt go into Iraq etc...i think ur sadly wrong. However, we should now focus on London and be vigilant. To everyone in the US, its only morning on the east coast and everyone should be careful just in case...u never know what these goons r planning.

Go on with your speculation while the rest of us mourn the dead and hope for the best for the wounded.

I never said Iraq was the cause of this attack. In fact, I say just about the opposite if you'd re-read my post.

The truth is "slinging mud"? Get a clue.

Al Qaeda al-Jihad is claiming responsibility and demanding Denmark, Italy, etc. leave Iraq or face consequences. These terrorist organizations will not stop even if Iraq magically turns into a paradise of democracy. That's the point I was making in my first post. I am not a liberal, I am a pragmatist.

Take off your bitter partisan blinders.

I guess they are so confident in their sources that they feel the info is not worth publishing online at cnn.com, foxnews.com, msnbc.com, bbc.co.uk, nor sky.co.uk?

More like information is more easily broadcast than it is updated on web sites. Seriously, lose the damned bitterness and hatred directed at me and try and stick to the topic.

Fox News just reported Al Qaeda claims of responsibility for these attacks.

I think you have bigger problems than Conjur, but anyway.

My sister called me from London about 45 minutes ago. She is safely at work, and I'm extremely thankful for that. She said the carnage on the street is much worse than what has been shown on television to this point.,

My thoughts go out to all the victims and their families. Anyone with half a braincell knows that you can't defeat terrorism with violence. They believe in an eye for an eye, and then some. The war on terrorism is a farce. Always has been, always will be. Do we actually need to spell it out? That we detest these criminal attacks on innocent civilians? I don't think so. I have an idea that the terrorists already understood we didn't like them much.
Fvck Bush, Fvck Blair, Fvck you wankers. You don't speak for me, I hate these fvckers that do this, but you fvckers aren't helping and you fvcking know it, and don't even pretend like you fvcking care.

And behold my ban.

CNN reported that Bush tried to contact his head of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff but couldn't get in touch with him!!!?

Bush had to talk with his assistant. Good thing they worked out all of the problems in the system since 9/11.

These people are terminally incompetent. Pathetic.
