What's generic white silicone worth? Need some questions answered.

I used generic silicon (that cheap white stuff) on a P3 800. I know it is not performing as well as AS but that's all could find in this small town. My greatest fear it that it will dry and stop transfering heat. I have read something like this on this forum. Is there really something to fear? Have some of you used silicon without problems? I am waiting for your answers prior to using my system. Thanks.
