What's faster/better...Athlon 1000 or Duron 1300?

I have a bunch of old processors and mobos laying around and I want to put a system together using the best things I have. I have 2 Athlon 1000's, a Duron 1100, and a Duron 1300 as my top picks for processors and was just asking for a little friendly advice.

Thanks

The Athlon 1.0ghz, especially since they can regularly hit 1.3-1.4ghz. The older Durons can't go any higher, and with twice the cache, the Athlon should be your choice.

I thought the cache would be the deciding factor, but I do not plan on overclocking this rig at all.

yeah they will be close
I would rather have the athlon personally, but the duron would prob win a few benchmarks like office productivity and maybe content creation just because it has a higher clock speed

but yes the extra cache on the t-bird should give it the upper hand in many games and video/audio encoding/decoding
asuming you are not talking about that new duron that was based off the palomino core (forget the codename off the top of my head)

try them both then come back and post some benchmarks
that's the only true way to know which proc is gonna do what you want the best

good luck

Athlon.

And even if you don't plan to overclock, try. You can do it without ANY issue...

Worth a shot to hit 1.2 and just blow the Duron away...

I don't think overcocking will be an option since I will probably be using an ECS K7S5a

You could try installing one of those modified bios which will give you more options. Get it here:
OCWorkBench

If you plan to use DDR then I would say go with the Duron 1300, it may be lacking the L2 cache of the Athlon, but it has SSE and hardware prefetch that the Athlon doesn't.
There could be some instances where the extra L2 cache of the Athlon pays off but you should get a more consistant performance boost from the SSE and extra speed of the Duron 1300. Add in DDR coupled with hardware prefetch and that will make it even harder for the Athlon 1000 to compete.

I know this is an old article but it might be worth a look to see what I mean.
