Hey all,

I need something to fill the void left by WoW. I'm looking for a FPS with lots of people playing multiplayer (big player base I mean).

What's everyone playing out there? I was thinking of trying BF2 or CoD2, leaning towards CoD2. Any suggestions?

TIA

I have both BF2 and CoD2. They are different kinds of games. I am just now trying to start multiplayer CoD2, haven't done it yet, so I can't say how it is multiplayer. BF2 is good though. Personally, I prefer FPS's without behicles though.

I wouldn't pick a game based on the size of it's player base. I'd find a game that lends itself to playing with a style that I enjoy, then I'd find people who are interested in playing the game I'm interested in playing.

I tend to agree with you there but I really don't have the $$ to lay out on more than one game right now really so I was thinking that the most popular game (multiplayer) might well be the best, or at least good enough that I would be satisfied with my purchase.

What are you expecting from an FPS? List some features/styles that you'd like it to have and I'm sure the collective knowledge of AT can name a title that matches at least some of your criteria.

I wouldn't recommend CoD2 at all for multiplayer. Great SP, but the MP isn't even as good as CoD1 which wasn't anything special.

So for strictly MP I'd get BF2, CS:S, DoD:S (this was only $10 a week or so ago).

Have you tried America's Army? I think it's quite fun, and the ROE penalties tend to make people at least avoid team shooting where possible.

BF2, I have one more unlock left before I have them all! I really don't see the use in the engee one compared to the other ones.

Well, the last multimplayer FPS I played and really enjoyed was RTCW:ET. I love the different missions and responsibilities of the different charachter classes.

I never played the original CS or DoD...would I be way behind the skill level oF everyone or are there new players like me trying it out?

For multiplayer FPS, I would say switching between BF2, UT2004, Quake 4, and C&C Renegade.

I Just looked up DoD on gamespot and it looks pretty sweet...does it come standalone or is it bundled with HL2 or somehting? I think that might be the first that I try.

DoD:Source is stand alone, you can purchase from Steam or retail. I've seen the retail package on sale at my local Fry's for around ~$15. I have DoD:S, it's an ok arcadey shooter. I don't play it too often though, so I can't tell you how easy it is to find a good server.

I'm still playing TFC, been playing it for years. There are still a lot of folks playing as well.

Ok finally got CoD2 to work multiplayer. This is my style of FPS, I think I'll enjoy it. If you want to go free though, ET is still a great game. In fact, I'd suggest ET over BF2 simply because it is free.
