Hi Guys,

Need your help.
Got an Core I7 920 D0 and X58M Mighty Mouse.

Tried to overclock it with everything at default with BCLK=200.
Worked fine for 30 minutes in prime95 then as soon as I made the
screenshots it crashed and I could not make it run again.

I can see the start button lights up and when I press it the 6 tiny blue LCDs just
blinks. I cleared the CMOS and tried again with no luck.

Any ideas what went wrong?
I dont have an extra motherboard so I cant test.
I dont want to return both of them.

Here is the blackbox:

Here is the debris:

Thanks for looking. :)

most likely it's your mobo....

It's unethical to return a component that you have killed from overclocking.

Thanks Stumps. Well, It's better it fails now than later.
Mobo is being sold as an overclocker and it even has
instructions for overclocking in the manual.

It's hard to justify that it craps out without a
voltage change and temps within normal conditions.

problem with that is manufacturers don't cover the warranty if the components fails because of overclocking...

you need to read the fine print..

but yeah it sucks when a component fails with very little use or abuse.

Try leaving the mobo sit for awhile with the battery out, sometimes just clearing the CMOS via the jumper doesn't always work.

Are you sure it isn't your RAM?

Try booting with just one RAM stick in the slot. Try clearing the CMOS again just to make sure.

errr FYI, evga has warranty that covers overclocking

http://www.evga.com/support/warranty/

that said, you need to register within 30 days of buying it, you need an invoice from the purchase (okay for me since I buy online and all is stored on my desktop and on gmail's servers) and that the original HSF is on there (you can have aftermarket HSF on there, but swap them out when you return, also if you damages the board by incorrect mounting of anything, then they won't cover it, that includes the CPU socket pins!!!!! (60 USD for ppl whom needs socket replacement)

Also, before you buy anything from evga, make sure that the model number are ending in the right letters, i got burned by my seller as they sold me a board with only 2 year warranty, its the same board with the lifetime, but it was marked for more extreme OCing and I hope to god it's not going to die early due to the binning of these...

Thanks I'll try it tonight when I get home.

Got the mobo just 2 days ago and was very excited building it so
I can start my autocad rendering. Too bad this happened :(

Thanks for all your help guys.
I am looking at this evga mobo now. I don't like this feeling I
am ripping somebodys off.

I tried inserting the DDR3 mem to DIM 1, one at a time with no luck. The only thing I have
not tested is to remove the battery whick I will do tonight.

Too bad I don't have a friend who has Core I7 to test all my components.
I have to look at computer repair shop near my area to see if they have Core I7 CPU/Mobo so
I can test my rig. I hope they don't charge more than $10 just to test which is broken.
Wish me luck. :)

Yeah try removing the CMOS battery... sometimes the clear CMOS jumper doesn't quite do it...
