I agree. You will have people that swear by Trinitron, and people that swear by Diamondtron. I personally prefer the latter, but at the end of the day they are VERY similar.

Trinitron's colours are slightly, slightly more vibrant. Both are excellent and the Mitsu's Diamondtron is a much better buy IMO.

I have had both and do like the Trinitron a bit better, though I am currently using a Diamondtron. So, they are very similar in image quality as they are both aperature grill monitors.

I've got the FD, and love it. But as Biggs suggested, its All subjective, speakers/headphones are the same darn way..

I'd have to say the Trinitron, thats why i bought my CPD-G420. But if you don't want to spend the extra bucks, a Diamondtron is in reality, practically identical. Apart from me prefering the Trinitron's quality, i also noticed i liked the "Sony" logo better. But i only came to that conclusion after using it for a week and staring at it.
If you want to spend even less, get a 19" KDS Flat Screen. They use the Sony Trinitron tube.

Trinitron is Sony's trademark and Diamontron is Mitsubishis trademark for aperture grill (CRT's) cathode ray tubes. Sony invented the aperture grill CRT and originally licensed the technology to Mitsubishi. Sony's patent on aperture grill technology has expired and others have also developed aperture grill CRT's. There are numerous variations of aperture grill CRTs, from a 0.22mm horizontal aperture pitch used in the Sony F520 to the variable pitch (0.23mm center 0.27mm sides) of the Sony FW-900. This makes it difficult to compare apples to apples unless you know the specific model monitors you like to compare.

In practice I have found very little difference in the tubes themselves (as long as they are the same aperture grill pitch and are driven by the same electronics). The CRT is only one aspect of the monitor's performance. Different companies use the same CRT's with a wide variation in ultimate video quality.

Good Luck
