What's better than the iphone

Aimster

Not satisfied with AT&T... It sucks. Lot of times it won't let me call anyone.

I want to switch to verizon. Is the droidx just as good as the iPhone? I've never played around with an android phone before.

Has anyone actually made the switch and been happy?

Unfortunately, all Android users have hade severe buyer's remorse and have had to take SSRI's.

It's a sad sad world 🙁

With that out of the way, Just sign up and port your number, you have a grace period to change your mind.

With your level of expertise, Android is awesome, you can mod the holy living crap out of it.

As far as the X, I don't think anyone has rooted it yet, so it's not as customizable as other phones, no custom ROMs yet.

The Incredible is pretty popular for modders, and it's due to get Android 2.2 this week IIRC, the Droid i suspect has the most active community of developers...

It was rooted on 23 July by Mr. Birdman, and now has one click root through Easy Root. While there are several themes available, as well as procedures for removing VZW's junk, there's not custom roms. They've gotten Clockwork Recovery to run on it, and it can flash Android builds, it cannot flash a kernel, so its of limited effectiveness. However, it can do nandroid back ups. Cracking Moto's boot loaders is gaining a lot of attention though. It took 7 to 8 months for the Milestone to get where the X is today, so there's been progress, lessons have been learned. Hopefully, it'll get fully broken soon so the full potential can be realized.

BTW, most Android phone owners are quite happy with their purchases. 🙂

You aren't welcome in our club...you have to stick with iPhone 😛

In all seriousness, there are a ton of very happy X owners. I haven't heard anything too good about the Droid 2, but the X is supposed to be kick ass. It has already been rooted and the whole "brick your phone if you try to root" rumor has been put to bed. Even if you don't want to root...that phone is sweet.

another +1 for Droidx. Haven't rooted it yet, but even just stock, especially with launcher pro, is absolutely awesome. and has many of my iphone coworkers very jealous. (not to mention when I can make calls just fine in the building, while they struggle constantly 😛).

Best bet is to go to Verizon and just look at all the Droids on display. VZW has by far the best selection of high-end android phones to chose from (and the best network to boot).

Not sure what you mean "as good as an iPhone".

Both phones have different OSs, you either like Android or you don't. If you're asking hardware wise, then yes the Droid X is fully capable. Its most likely the best Android phone out currently.

I'm interested to see the HTC Scorpion, the supposed replacement for the EVO. Unless something better comes out at the time, I'm likely going to go with the Droid X when I will be in the market early next year.

From what I've read, the Droid X is superior to the iPhone. Tech specs are nearly the same but it supports full Flash. I'd definitely get it over the iPhone 4 because of that. Too bad it's CDMA only. My provider is GSM only.

Are there any GSM Android phones that rival the iPhone 4?

That's like asking if there are any Porches that rival a Ducati. They are 2 different beasts.

There are people who would argue that the Galaxy S competes or tops the iPhone 4. Some would say the Evo stomped it. I say that the iPhone does its job and the Android phones do their job. They just aren't the same jobs.

The X has a slightly more powerful CPU than the Evo(Omap is faster clock for clock than Snapdragon) and the GPU is around twice as fast. Droid X also has like ten times the app storage of the Evo.

I've owned at least 10 smartphones in the past 9 months, as well as every version of the iPhone minus the 4 and every Droid phone from Verizon and I have to say the X is the best one I've used out of them all personally.
