except for the fact that it's a PITA to learn how to use Flash, HTML, etc if you are a computer illterate teacher. At least with powerpoint my professors can put together really interesting presentations without wasting three hours trying to figure out how to use it.

LOL. I'm partial to Baldur's Gate II myself. Hand in a Paladin character as your presentation. Then dazzle em with BG2's spell effects like Aberdalzim's Wilting (sp?)

Openoffice would be a great alternative to use and it's free 🙂

Corel Office Suite has Presentation. It's very similar except for slight format differences. There are also some extra bells and whistles that I don't find on PP. It is a bear to convert from Presentation files to Power Point so be aware. I presonally like PP because it works fine for what it is supposed to do.

Well PP does the job perfectly fine for everything and anything i need it to do, was just wondering if there was an alternative.

Do you think its worth it to give OpenOffice a try?

The reason why I dislike Powerpoint is that in 95% of the places I've seen it used, it's used for no reason other than making the speaker try to appear technically savvy. An example of this is a presentation with a logo, a graph that wasn't explained, and some random picture that the guy just liked. I swear I was expecting it to be in a Strongbad Email episode.

Macromedia Director.

Can be used for simple presentations like PP, but has the potential (with its lingo coding language) to code entire applications and games. I spent months writing a game in lingo for a school project (an RTS game).

Not to mention it doesn't need Director or some kind of "director viewer" to see the file. It just gives you a simple EXE file when you're done, that works on all windows platforms (you can make Mac ones as well).

I'd like to point out that there are several Power Point games floating around as well, I once played a Jeopardy game written with Power Point. The simple EXE is a benefit, but there isn't much problem of saving your Power Point viewer to the disk as you save your Power Point presentation.

My Macromedia Director experience is far too limited to give an opinion of which was better (less than one hour using it).
