Im considering to get mandrake for one of our systems. Im kinda intrested in learning linux anyway. Ive been hearing good things about mandrake 7.2 and all but read theres a version 8 coming soon.

IF i want to get version 7.2 now, can i always get the upgrade to ver 8 at a later date? Is the upgrade going to be a big price and should i just wait till ver 8 comes out?

Is this linux fairly easy to master? Any advise is appriciated :)

Mandrake 8 is supposed to be a big change from 7.2.. Supposed to have a whole new kernel.. I tried the Beta version and had nothing but problems but I'm sure all the bugs have been worked out. Mandrake is a very easy to setup and use OS..

If you have a new video card (radeon, geforce2, etc.) you'll want to use mandrake 8 which includes Xfree86 4.02.

I've been using the first Mandrake 8.0 beta -- with frequent updates applied from the "Cooker" -- on one of my machines for a couple of months now. I did encounter one test kernel that trashed one of my ReiserFS partitions; that was a kernel bug, not a Mandrake bug. There was also one version of the KDE packages that broke KDM. Other than that, though, it's worked very well.
