What's better looking 720 or the 1080 version of HD?

It depends.

Both have their strong points.

I see interlacing artifacts/flicker on 1080i.

This topic has been beaten to death by the way. The horse is literally no more, beaten into dust.

whatever your TV does native will look better pretty much. it is also all preference.

720p will have a "crisper" picture because it doesnt interlace frames and shows each picture in one whole frame, but 1080i will have more detail cause its resolution is better.

1080p is best, next is 720p & then 1080i... in case you didn't know, the letter stands for interlaced or progressive, an interlaced picture only draws half the image on each screen refresh while progressive draws the entire thing each time & thus looks better in most cases.

personally i like 720p for sports & 1080i for movies for the reasons listed above.

1080p is the best of both worlds. i cant wait for hd-dvd.
