Whats better in the long run??

I was just considering buying a Radeon 9800non pro and flashing the bios to 9800pro speeds when I noticed that the non-pro only comes with 128MB. Is this going to bog down on some of the new games that will have 80+MB textures or is the 9600pro 256MB a better buy for the long run??

I am currently running a P4 2GHz with 768MB RDRAM.

Ive also been told to consider a 9500pro seeing that it might run better with DX9 games. Is this true?

9600s dont have the power reqd. to use the 256mb for games that need it. u'll be fine with a 9800np

I just heard it was faster than the 9600.

The thing about the 9800np is that I really want to flash the bios to 9800pro speeds but I am not sure I have the right setup to do so. Does it require any extra cooling on the case or the card itself? I am only running a Dell P4 2.0GHz with stock fans and all that. Im just nervous about buying a card, trying to flash and overclock it with a case that doesn't have any extra cooling on it.

You might be able to get 9800 Pro speeds out of the card (if you get the one with 2.8ns Samsung memory you will be able to), or you might not. Either way the 9800 non-pro beats the hell out of the 9600 series and 9500 series.

I thought that they were out of the np and all they had was the se.

The 9800 np was back in stock earlier..though I see they're now out again. At any rate, gzfant, you should probably check your order and be positive you got the 9800np and not the 9800 np se.

Just buy the 9800np and run it stock, when you play some game that makes you think 'darn sure wish this was faster' then think about overclocking.
