So I"m building a new A64 PC. I won't be overclocking so some people have reccomended that I go with the 754 Newcastle A64 instead of the Winchester 939. If I do go with the Newcastle will the 754 allow me to upgrade the CPU in a couple years or are they phasing out the 754 chips.

Also I heard that DDR2 may be used as system ram soon which would obviously require a new M/B so I guess when I do upgrade the processor in 2-3 years then I may just want to get a new M/B too depending on how well the DDR2 actually performs as system ram.

939, the 754 is being phased out now. You only DDR2 is you go with a Intel system I believe.

Go with socket 939. AMD currently has no plans to use DDR2, because it provides no benefits for them yet. Plus, they'd have to completely change the A64 core since the memory controller is built into the chip.

Nothing is for certain because technology changes everyday but if you're looking to upgrade in the next few months then a 939 might have more options for you. And if you're looking for ddr2 Intel is the only maker of those systems right now.
