Whats better for a new build AMD or Pentium

I was wondering what to do when I upgrade again to a new computer. Dont know weather to go back to pentium again. I currently own an AMD 64 system and I've had trouble from the start. With my old Pentium 4 system it was rock solid and never gave me any problems but it was slow.

What are your opinions on AMD vs Pentium

It really all depends on what your going to use it for.If your going for gaming I would go with AMD the single core 939 athlon 64 or the x2's

Jader, if you want help troubleshooting your Athlon64, then post your full hardware specs in detail, including brand & model of the memory modules and brand & model of the power supply.

I've had solid and non-so-solid computers I've build from both AMD and Intel. I've been with AMD for the last few years do to the PRICE/Performance Ratio which AMD has been holding for quite along time now.

like already said, its ALL depends on what your using it for....im big into gaming so i use amd...this is my second amd build and its really solid, the intel i use up at work is very problematic...again if price is an issue amd wins again..

Everyone on here seems to tell me that AMD is the better way to go. In about 30 posts total regarding the same question in my threads, no one has said Intel...for anything -- gaming, performance, heat, multitasking...nothing. In fact, i'm surprised that nobody has come on here yet and screamed "AMD! YOU WOULD BE FOOL TO DO OTHERWISE INTEL SUKS!!" 😉

Currently there is no reason to own a P4 for any desktop system.

They run hot, and they don't perform like the A64.

I guarantee any problems you have are not due to the CPU you picked, but likely drivers or poor choices in other areas (no name RAM or PSU etc)

Post your entire system specs any the problems you are having. There isn't much reason to upgrade if you already own an A64.

Looks Like AMD is the better choice. I mostly use it just for games and to type up papers for school. Im waiting on BTX to show up and the windows vista before I make any major upgrades but from what you guys said I will probobly stick with AMD but most likely an X2 proccesor.
thanks

I like AMD. They're better than Intel for gaming, and if you can afford a dual-core AMD, then they're better than Intel for just about everything else too.

I just upgraded to an X2, and it performs well. Doesn't overclock quite as well as I'd like, but it made it above 2.4 GHz, and it runs fast and multitasks seamlessly.
