What's better Apex AD-800 or Panasonic DVD-RV31K?

I am trying to decide between the two players. The Apex is ten dollars less, and it seems to do ID3 tags, but the Panasonic is a name brand with good rating and some cool features.

Thoughts?

The Apex plays SVCD's where as the Panasonic does not. Both play vcd's. I had the 31 and it is a nice unit. But I dumped it when it would not play svcd's. IMHO....

I can't comment on 800, but if its video quality is anything like AD 1500, I wouldn't pay $50 for it. It(the 1500) sucked. I have a RV31 now. I have no complaints.

Pretty good comparison here

The DVD-RV31K is definitely the better player.

svcd is mpeg2 vcd is mpg1. svcd allows you to do things like play the lord of the rings dvd screener 4 cd rip svcd in dvd quality. its a very very good feature. there is another standard called xvcd that also uses mpeg2 and is convertible from svcd (toshiba i think uses this, maybe panasonic support that). but its not as popular
