I'm sick of 1024x768 because of lack of desktop space.. however 1152x864 @ 75Hz brings Noticable strain on my eyes (or I'll probably get used to it)

Is Hz rating really bad? I wouldn't even bother with 1200~x1000~ on with my monitor.. @ 60hz.. I'll go blind.

Bingo. Some people can work on 75hz, others can't. My monitor has the exact same settings - 1024x268@85hz or 1152x864@75Hz. I need the extra desktop space, so I'm working with the higher resolution.

I'd go with 1024x768@85hz, if those are the only choices. My "other" choice would be to pick up a used 21-inch for cheap and do 16x12@85hz or higher :D.

If your eyes can't take it, use the lower resolution.

I prefer to run 1600x1200 on my monitor at home but have recently dropped to 1280x960 @ 100 hz.

I need to get a better monitor, one that will do 1600x1200 @ 85hz or higher.

:D

I'd go with 1152x864@75Hz myself because it doesn't hurt my eyes. But for you I'd say 1024x768. A little bit of real estate isn't worth the headache.

1600 x 1200 at 85Hz, but I still notice flicker right when i exit a game at 1024 x 768 @120 Hz. The notice of flicker goes away soon after though.

for you, 1024 x 768 at 85 Hz

I use 1152x864 @ 85Hz at work on a 17" CRT.

75 is borderline acceptable
anything less i refuse to use!

i run 1280x960x60Hz and my eyes are fine, of course i've never gone to higher resolution, so i dunno what would happen if i tried that and then came back.

Once you've seen higher refresh rates you will hate 60 hz.

If those were my only options than id use 1152x864

Currently Im using tripple 1600x1200x75 on my three 19inch monitors (2 on this box and on on my linux box which is directly next to this one). No eyestrain or flicker is noticed

1152@75
...
mine does 1280@85Hz but i prefer it at 75Hz cuz my eyes are used to it and 1600@75Hz is just too small.

Stick to the smaller size if the lower res hurts your eyes.
I use 1152x864 @100 Hz. I tried 1600x1200 @ 85Hz for a while with enlarged fonts but that wasn't great. Anything over 72Hz is supposed to be okay.

i would always go with 85+ personally, but I'm prone to headaches if the refresh is low. 75 still bothers me a bit. 100 is smoooth.

I already get migraines... been using 60Hz without knowing it (but that's not the lone cause of them). Nothing bad has happened yet at 1152x864 @ 75Hz. Anyway, I don't notice a damn difference with the flickering (hopefully my brain will) between 60Hz and 75Hz. I had a thread about this a month or so ago... how do you actually notice a difference with the naked eye? Do you guys wear glasses/contact lenses ?

Same here. I don't like using anything under 100Hz. Even at 85Hz I can see a peripheral flickering and I don't like that so I don't use 1600 x 1200 resolution except when I really need more real estate.

I run my primary monitor at 1600x1200@85Hz and the secondary at 1600x1200@75Hz. 75Hz doesn't bother me so I'm fine with it.

But if you are getting eye strain at 75 then stick with 1024x768@75. What good is extra space if you can't look at it?

I work with my dual monitors set to 1600x1200@75Hz.... that seems to be ok for my eyes for prolonged exposure. Though I do prefer 85Hz... there is a big step up from 1280x1024 to 1600x1200, so I bear the extra little bit of flashing.

I run my 21" monitor at 1024X768X32 @ 85 Hz. Any lower than 85 and it hurts my eyes. The only reason I have a 21" is because my 19" died 2 times and they (KDS) replaced it with this 21" and gave me a longer warranty.
