My brother is building a new computer and is taxed for funds.

He bought a Fry's combo today consisting of an ECS K7 mobo & Athlon 2400 with 512mb Patriot pc700 RAM.

He bought a video card today @ Fry's for $70--Radeon 9200se......everyone on this board seems to think it's a dog and can do much better.

So please in your infinite wisdom recommend the best bang for the buck card under say $80?

ya the 9200se is a dog, it has a 64bit memory bus making it horable for gameing. a ti4200 is pretty hard to find for under 80$ though. on the other hand, a real 9200 with a 128bit bus can be found for well under 80$, makeing the 9200se seem like a really bad deal.

Try and find a 9100 128MB if you can. A lot of local shops still have them and they run about $70.

I wouldn't go lower than a 128MB 4200 or 9100 right now. modedepe's link looks very tempting, and seems to be the best you can do by far for the price. The store itself has decent, though not exceptional, ResellerRatings(.com).
