what's best to replace winnt 4 and win98se?

I have a winnt rev4 comp and a win98se comp. the nt is what i use for cad and the win98se comp is my play toy. I like nt for cad but its a pain in the a$$ to config and install stuff some times. so what would be a good choice to replace this. also is there anything that beats win98se yet for gaming?
