what's best for viewing movies? LCD or CRT?

Yeah i dont like the dot pitch for the LCD monitors they just look to grainy for me. but for some ppl its the novelty of having a cool flat panel that they will over look all the other features that are important such as image quality.
I have a samsung i bet its so muchbetter than almost any flat panel of today.
I just can't personally spend the money on an lcd, when for the same price you can get a much bigger crt screen.
A 4" size difference might be enough to make your dvd's look better., depending on how far away from your monitor you watch them.
Also personally, LCD's are awesome for work environments, but crt 'feels' better for DVD & games.
I know there's proof that LCD's aren't as good for said activities, but this is just an opinion based on the MANY different models of monitors i've seen.

down the line, when LCD matures more, id like to get one. For now, my desk is big and strong to handle my 19" Samsung.
I have a Samsung 900NF CRT and a Sumsung 191T LCD. Looking at both, I would have to say that they are both great for DVDs, of course the 900NF is better for gaming but the 191T is not bad, just the native resolution thing.
Ghosting and trailing are 2 completely different things, ghosting can be seen on still objects... even on crts. Trailing is what I think most people are talking about. DVDs on my 191t ,no trailing... games, some trailing, but tolerable. The picture is a lot nicer on the lcd imo, but computer displays are so much higher res than TVs that you just notice more good AND bad image qualities.

The only real factor I've seen is that LCDs sometimes have a problem showing black. In darker scenes, sometimes the dark parts of the screen will disappear, or kinda melt into the letterbox bars.
My opinion is that LCD looks great. The picture seems to look as good as my CRT.
I will say though that a flat screen CRT does look better for gaming/DVD. I have a regular CRT and the LCD looks better than a normal CRT.

LCD also can have up to 5 dead pixels that won't be covered under warranty depepnding on the manufacturer.
If anyone has ever worked with a monitor with dead pixels you know how annoying they can be.
Even one dead pixel is enough to upset anyone who drop $900 on a monitor.
This is why i wouldn't recommend ordering lcd's online.

Ladys and gentlemen, we have another misinformed person that thinks TFTs are naff.
My TFT, Hitachi CML174SXW, kicks a$$ in games/dvds.
I play all of my games/DVDs on it. And its far better than my old 21" Panasonic.
Personally I have a Mitsubishi 17 Flat CRT (Trinitron tube), and a Dell 17" E171 LCD on 2 separate computers with comparable computer specs. I've noticed that the CRT does a better job overall, without the occasional grainy look the LCD produces. No problems with ghosting even with my run of the mill average LCD, with a analog connection, and 25ms response time. My vote goes for CRTs for DVD viewing.
I just watched a movie on mine to see, and it looked fine. If you buy a good one you should be ok. Go with your gut.

The question was not : Will an LCD be good enough for viewing movies?
This person just wants to know hands down which is BETTER at displaying all the different things that provide a DVD picture. Gaming was never brought up in the original question.
The obvious answer on which is BEST when dealing with only the overall viewing quality of a DVD movie, and removing all other factors, is easily the CRT.

CRTS, LCD's don't have good black level like CRT's do. dark scenes tend to have large black patches instead of indepth black detail and shadow.
