I'm building a computer for a friend of mine.. he is a "hobby" guitarist.. and will use the computer mainly to compose music, He has also bought a rather pro audio card. I guess w2k would be suited best for his needs.. but how is w2k on this?..

Most tasks will be audio recording/sampling, composing....

i've been looking into this as well....

windows 2000 is great as long as the software and drivers support it. some gear and code hasn't been optimized yet. but most is getting there, as i understand. but often us musicians want to support old, legacy stuff, and so...

win98 se is pretty much known to work with just about anything. but 2k's definitely ideal.

Between WinXP and Win2K, I would get him WinXP. It sounds like he doens't know that much about computers (since you are building one for him), so WinXP would probably be easier for him.
