What's best for a 2GB Memory setup ?

That'd be on a 3800+ X2 CPU, using ASUS A8N-E (nForce 4).

Would I be able to run at 1T with 4 x 512MB sticks ?

And, is only 1 x 1024MB stick as good as 2 x 512MB sticks running in Dual-Channel ?

I'm asking this because I found the brand that's in my price range.

Crucial Ballistix PC-3200 (and I also based my selection on an article here on Anandtech that's benchmarking many brands, and they praised Crucial Ballistix, second position overall).

And, no, I won't go OCZ Rev. 2, or Kingston Hyper-X, or Corsair Twinx XL. Since, first of all, the first two mentioned aren't availabled locally at the moment, and they are at least $45 to $60 (Canadian dollars) more expensive than Crucial.

The thing is ... Crucial doesn't make 1024MB sticks of their Ballistix PC-3200.

There is a 2 x 512MB kit, for a total of 1GB in Dual-Channel.

But I'd like to go with 2GB (eventually, which could be soon actually).

Though I'd like to ... I'm still not sure what would be better.

2 x 1024 in Dual ?

Or 4 x 512 at perhaps 2T ?

I don't know what to do.

I need advice, comments, facts, opinions ...

Thanks for your time.

2x1024 MB.

I'm not going to try to explain in detail, but if you do a search, especially in the CPUs forum, you'll fine a lot of threads mentioning why 2x1024 MB.

4x512mb at 2T is not going to kill performance. BUT, I would only do it if I either already had 2x512mb sticks and got an incredible deal on 2 more, or just got a killer deal on all 4. Otherwise, go with 2x1GB.

Looks like I am in that boat. I currently have 2 X 512 kit of Mushkin PC3500. I wish to add another GIG of RAM to bring my total to 2 GIGs. I have a total of 4 slots so what are my options if any? What do I need to complete this upgrade. My specs are listed below

Why not ValueSelect? ^_^ After all, not much performance difference at all (according to our Anandtech review).

@1ManArmY: Basicly, depends on the deal, if you find a 1GB for <$70 then go on and grab 2. They are cheap nowadays anyway so why settle for 2GB of RAM (like me right now) when you can go 3GB.

The mushkin PC3500 is high performance RAM with 2-2-2-5 timings. I want something compatiable and stable.
