i dont keep my cars particularly long.

first car 2001 nissan altima. had a few weird issues with blowing rear taillights. that was about it. owned 4 years

owned a 05 g35 for a year, no problems, then again it was 1 year.

owned an 05 acura TSX for 4+ years. started failed after 30k miles.

2010 audi a4. fuel injector failed, catalytic converter failed, and it burned a ton of oil. 3 years 50k miles

2013 bmw 328i. just over 3 years, not a single problem.

so yeah a german car is the most and least reliable car i've owned.

Strangely enough, my most reliable cars have been my BMWs. Maybe I'm just that 1 in a million lucky BMW owner...

How many miles do you drive per year? what sort of maintenance do you do to your BMWs? How old are your cars? How many BMWs did you drive? What other cars did you drive and their age when you bought them???

Sure, I'll play your interrogation game.

1. About 12K miles a year, lately, not much.
2. Maintenance done on BMWs.
On 2005 - going on 148K miles (drive it like I stole it, even take it to the canyons from time to time)
A. Things that legitimately broke and needed to be changed: intake elbow - cracked; lower radiator hose (though I think that might have been my fault); slow leak on radiator (I decided then to change the entire cooling system, just because it's due, but looooog after the busted radiator hose replacement), busted expansion tank x 2 (the original developed a cracked, i changed it using Behr equipment, cracked again after 1 year, went back to OEM); windshield fluid pump; 2 x belt tensioners; right head light; fuel cap

B. Things that I changed out just because, or preventive maintenance: VANOS o-rings; PVC valve; valve cover gaskets x 2; spark plugs x 3 sets; fuel filter; transmission flush and filters x 3; diff oil, other misc fluids flush; FCAB x 1 (urethane); oil change at half recommended interval; belts

C. Things that annoy me about the car now: doesn't matter what I do, there's always liquid coating the power steering fluid housing; the parts of the lining are starting to come apart, but nothing can't be fixed by some thin double-sided tape. The freaking weather seal on the rear windows have been damaged badly by exposure, the only way to change them is to replace the entire chrome trim that goes around pretty much the entire cabin; still contemplating whether I care that much about it. I'm planning on replacing front control arms assy, steering wheel coupling, shocks and springs, soon.

Things changed on 2015 - oil; don't know if you consider this a change, but Dinan stage 1 tune installed.

3. I bought an Accord new, had to get rid of it late last year at around 100K miles, nothing was holding up well and the interior was falling apart. Replaced a few things, but everything else in the engine bay started to make noise, and the tranny was starting to act funny.

To be fair, one of my Prelude held up pretty well even though beaten up by me regularly, save for the overheating problem, lost track of how many thermostats I replaced. And, this one time, I blew up the engine on it, although I think that might have been the dealer's fault as there was no oil in it after an oil change. I took it on a road trip and it blew up midway, not a drop of oil on inspection. This was also in my youth, so car care wasn't exactly something I knew how to do then.

Anyways, most of the Hondas I bought were preowned, ranging from 2-4 years old when I took ownership, except for the Accord that I bought new- and that one held up worst, and newest of those.

I also like to walk on the beach, black hair, brown eyes, and 6 1/2" penis. Just want to throw that out there.

For a lot of people, that would be considered a "lot" of work. True, nothing serious but still work nonetheless. If it were a Prius or Camry, you might have 5 small things on the list. Surprised about the Accord though you never specified the issues it had.

For the most part, all of my cars have been somewhat trouble-free. Call it luck, proper maintenance or just the know-how to keep a car in good shape, but i've not had any major issues with any of my cars (both german and japanese).

The only one that did pose a problem was the 99 Prelude. The transmissions were known to give out for the prelude/acura TL of that time and when it did gave out, it was close to 150kmi. Needless, to say, i wouldn't count it against Honda because I drove the piss out of that car ever since i bought it used at 60kmi.

Every car I've owned has had one or two small issues and mostly under warranty. Nothing big outside of replacing wear items or things that fail around 100k miles.

'88 S-10
'98 S-10
'03 Pontiac Vibe
'03 Mazdaspeed Protege
'04 Pontiac GTO
'08 CTS
'10 Corvette
'11 CTS-V
'03 Mazda 6

'14 GMC Acadia
'15 Corvette

A lot of GM vehicles so maybe I'm the oddity.

1987 Toyota Cressida - Transmission failed after over 300k miles
1998 Honda Civic - No issues
1994 Honda Civic - Transmission failed after 220k miles
2003 Honda Accord - No issues
2005 Infiniti G35 - Oil in spark plug wells, fixed under warranty.
1999 Mazda Miata - Electrical issue due to previous owner's hack job of an alarm install (still own)
2009 Lexus IS250 - No issues
2012 Toyota Prius - No issues
2014 BMW 228i - No issues (still own)
2013 Mazda Miata - No issues (still own)

I apparently go through a lot of cars or don't keep them long.. Everything's been a used car besides the Prius and BMW. For length of time owned.. I guess the Prius wins out.

In 10 years? Shirley you jest. The issues with the accord I told you. Are you that hard against a German car?

The last 2 Hondas I've owned have needed nothing but oil, batteries and tires past 200,000. My current one is 16 years old and has needed nothing but oil, tires and batteries. That lemon Accord is unfortunate, but an outlier.

Bought my 1994 Toyota Xtra cab brand spanking new, put 230,00 miles on it, two timing belts, two starters, four sets of tires (one set because they got the sidewalls ice-picked), three sets of spark plugs, five batteries, a gajillion oil changes, assorted light bulbs and wiper blades, three tinting jobs, one new set of wheel bearings and shocks and a partridge in a pear tree.

That truck ran very well up and 'til the day it got stolen a couple of years ago.

I miss it very much.

the issues for the accord were undiagnosed and very non specific. Also curious what year Accord it was because older ones were prone to transmission issues, especially the V6 models.

I'm not saying it can't happen... I have an ES350 that had the transmission fail at 60K miles along with other minor stuff. But if you're going to complain, be specific cause I want to know if these issues were addressed with a TSB or a recall or not. In the case of my car, they were.

Like here is an example for the Accord:
2013-14 models may need an updated valve body in the transmission if there’s a surge or hesitation when accelerating from a stop (13-053).

2005-10 four-cylinder cars were recalled for a transmission software update (11-050).

2004-07 V6 models might need an updated heat shield for pinging or rattling (07-028), and four-cylinder models may need new brake pads for uneven wear

2007 V6 models may need A/C system updates if it does not cool properly (08-046), and four-door models might need updated rear window regulators for buzzing or grinding noises (07-064).

There are three recalls and three service campaigns/warranty extensions:

2008-11 four-cylinders have a campaign to update software to reduce oil consumption (11-049).

2008-12 V6 automatic models had the warranty for misfires extended to 8-yrs/unlimited miles (13-078).

2010 four-cylinders were recalled to repair a loose wire that caused stalls/no-starts (11-001), and V6 models were recalled for possible front suspension collapse (10-084).

2011 four-cylinders have a campaign to inspect/replace cam/rocker shaft holder for oil leaks (10-072).

2012 models were recalled to replace the side curtain air bags (12-008).

Service bulletins

2008 models may need the driver’s door adjusted if it intermittently won’t open (08-047), and some might need an updated evaporator core if white dust comes from the vents during A/C use (10-023).

2008-09 models might need an updated oil pump if the engine whines between 2,000-3,500 RPM (09-084).

2008-11 V6 models might need an updated intake manifold gasket and retorqued rocker shaft bolts if the engine knocks or ticks at idle (08-017), and some might need updated front ball joints or front knuckles for clunks over bumps in hot weather (12-082).

All of those things can get repaired under warranty, they're clearly defined problems with solutions. This is why I ask for specifics. Most non mechanics can't properly assess "problems" nor how much they would cost to fix.

It was a 2003 EX V6, and yes I'm aware of the transmission problems, that's why I didn't care to list the other problems, because that ONE transmission problem made the other problems insignificant. Although ABS control module, power steering pump, intermittent airbag problems (took it in to the dealers a bunch of times, they said can't determine the cause), timing belt, display on the entertainment system went out (subsequently stopped working altogether), seats bolsters worn and generally bad leather quality, and other shits I don't care to remember, are pretty significant.

Anyways, so how many miles do you drive per year? what sort of maintenance do you do to your cars? How old are your cars? How many cars did you drive? What other cars did you drive and their age when you bought them???

Edit: I just realized that you have a hard on for your Accord, carry on.

I don't have an accord, I have a glorified Camry.

96 Chevy Caprice

Owned: 2003-2008
43-100,000 miles

Replaced Water Pump (can't remember why)
Radioator Thermostate
Replaced Radiator (was leaking)
Spark plug cables

Here is the fun one, the engine damper came off one time, it damaged the water pump engine oil pan, and transmission oil pan, only that i didn't know the extent of the damage. The water pump on the caprice was cam driven, so when the damper came off the water pump appeared to be okay (no power steering no alternator but it could limp home), i didn't see the damage to the pan's. I started driving and the car started overheating but i just kept on driving (i know), didn't care. I got home and it leaked out all the oil from both pans, i saw that the water pump inlet had come off. I replaced all the damaged parts and the car ran. The car met it's demise when it was reareneded and was declared a total loss (still drove it for about two weeks, also drove it to the junk yard).

Current Car 08 Civic Si

Replaced:
clutch master cylinder,
hoses and clamps,
also had the roof repainted due to Honda defective paint, car is starting get crows foot
Currently needs motor mounts, i have new mounts but i haven't had the time and have been to lazy to install them, i am not fond of the big engine (dimension) vs the size of the engine compartment

Girlfriends car, this one is fun: The car feel victim to a bad body shop that did at horrible job of putting the car back together
