I've recently gone to a new ISP whose news server sucks hard. So I guess I'm now in the market for a commercial server. I'd like one that's reasonably priced (I might download somewhere around 8gigs/month...if that) and doesn't have problems with partial files/retention.

I saw this server: 100 proof news, But I dunno if it's really any good (as far as reliability goes).

Any suggestions?

I've wasted bundles searching for the best one.
Easynews has them all beat. 6GB/month for $10 with rollover option (use >6GB and you can pay another $10 for another 6GB)
More NGs and better speed/retention than Giganews, my previous favorite.

I've been using Newsguy for awhile (since Pacbell's news servers SUCK OUT LOUD). Not sure if they are the best, but they work well for me.

Easynews looks interesting. (I'd rather do that than giganews). Looks like easynews retention is about a month and has all the news groups I'm interested in. Not too bad.

Any other recommendations?

Easynews is the best, hands down. I have tried others, and Easynews NEVER misses a post. I have downloaded 900+ meg binaries without a problem... 6 gigs for 10$...

And the Zipmanager on their website is the best! Just search for your files, checkmark the ones you want, and they will zip them up for you!

Newsfeeds.com is a good place to get news. They have about 12 different servers and you are limited on each server per day. Most are around 500 to 750 megs a day. If you use a newsgroup reader with multiple server ability, then it will work like a charm. I rarely hit my limits when I am running a good newsgroup client that has the ability to download from all the servers and spread out the work. I downloaded a little over 2 gigs last night without hitting my limit. If you pay a year at a time, it's only $14/mo or something around there. The guy that refered me has gotten well over 35 gigs in a month without problem. Seems like the best deal to me.

I will add another thumbs up to Easynews. It has worked very well for me. Easynews also has a 3 day free trial so you can try it out before deciding.

I use to have a personal account with Supernews, but I'm not sure they still offer personal accounts. They had just about every group known, I think you were allowed 2gb per month. I just used it for porno. $10/month.
