where would they get software? Maybe if they teamed up with nintendo to collaborate on some kinda all in one computer/TV turner/DVR/Game console "set-top" box, (read: wall mounted and sexy looking to go with your ultra hip interior design, or perhaps some basic geometric shape.. a translucent plastic tetrahedron..) that runs OSX and plays Wii/gamecube games..

God it annoys me when people type out "I-Pod," and I'm not even an Apple fan. You can't take a shit in this country without seeing an iPod ad, so you'd think people would catch on to how it's written!

Whatever they call it, if they decide to make one, it will make the PS3 look cheap.

Wonder who they will blame for the crappy sales though, I don't think people pirating the console is going to hold much water.

But it will be a piece of art! It would look sleek, gorgeous, simplistic, like most of their good looking useless gadgets. :D

J/K, somewhat, the iPod was their greatest invention tho. Wish they would put a real equalizer on the damn thing already!

No, this is just a thread for Apple anti-fanboys to get their rocks off.

Yep, seems like this is just an Anti-Apple Circlejerk. Have fun, if well, you find this fun.

They didn't. They invented the AAC player.

They also made the MP3 player good. When the iPod came out, it was the only MP3 player (at least that I know of) that met these two very basic criteria:

1. Held more songs than an audio CD, and
2. Could fit into your pocket.

Simple, right? But at the time, all the pocket players were little flash dealies with, oh, 32 MB of space or something. Enough for about one audio CD's worth of (compressed MP3) music. Meanwhile, you had Creative Labs with the Nomad, which had much larger hard drive options than the iPod, some of which were cheaper. But they were larger than CD players.

The iPod filled the gap perfectly. Yeah, it was expensive, but it still offered something no other portable audio player did at the time.

Nowadays it's not so innovative. It's still a nice product - well made, still portable, simple to use - but it's not really that different from what competitors offer.

Where did I ever say they invented the mp3 player? They invented the iPod, as I clearly wrote. Can you not read correctly?????

can we stop ranting about it? and be real people and have a good discussion on it?

If apple comes out with a console whats so bad? Given true they dont own there own processor or gpu, most likely i think it will be some sort of intel game box, something simular to the original XBOX, only use MAC OSX of some sort.

To a degree i think it would have more flexibility then per say a ps3 or xbox360.

I AM ONLY SPECULATING SO DONT QUOTE ME ON ANY OF THIS

Also looking at apple's history right now, i bet you it will be small and tiny like the nintendo wii.

Only problem is what game company decided to go with apple, and how they intend to market this product.

I just think Apple's too out of touch with regard to pricing to be successful in such a competitive market. They have an advantage in their other areas, where they deliver a product that at least appears far superior. They know people will pay extra for style so they can get away with charging $1300 for a MacBook that has the same stats as a $900 Dell, or $300 for an iPod that is similar to a $200 MP3 player from another company. But Nintendo already has the "slim, white, stylish" console... what could Apple possibly bring to the table? It might be as stylish as the Wii, but it won't have the motion controls, and I doubt it'll cost any less. No one will have any reason to buy one.

With game consoles, though, the real important thing isn't the console itself, it's the games. Last I checked, Apple wasn't a huge game developer, nor did they have many ties to major game developers. Besides, I don't think the market can stand another console. Like I said, Nintendo already occupies the space that Apple would occupy if they were to try to go for a full-on game console.

One thing Apple could do, though, is try to capitalize on the extreme popularity of Pop-Cap's casual games. Maybe try to work out something for the iPhone or even some sort of AppleTV integration where you control the game using the remote and buy games through the iTunes store just like with iPod games. Either that, or if they do want to make a standalone console, they could make one exclusively for casual games and use really cheap hardware to undercut Nintendo. But Apple releasing any piece of hardware for under $200 seems kind of outlandish to me.

I was off by a bit, it's actually $1019, not $900.

Dell Inspiron 1525 with 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, Bluetooth, and a built-in webcam as BTO options comes to $1019. It has a larger screen but the same screen resolution (1280x800?a 1680x1050 screen is available for $50), more memory (3 GB instead of 2 GB), and a larger hard drive (250 GB instead of 160 GB).

Anyway, to a lot of people it's worth it to spend an extra $300 or so to get the MacBook. It's smaller and more portable, and obviously it's a Mac so it runs OS X and has the whole style angle down. But in the context of creating a video game system, I don't think there are enough people willing to pay that much extra for an Apple product.
