What's an upgrade from an STI/EVO

The STI/EVO are cars that provide great performance to dollar ratio and provide great utility.

For people who like to tune and mod their cars it provides a great experience.

Personally the only car I can think of that provides something along the same lines but is what I consider a step up from the boy racer mentality is a BMW 135/335i

any suggestions AT Garage?

AWD sucks, unless you need it for snow or something. If there was a small sedan that was as powerful as the STI, but with RWD, it would sell like hotcakes. But such a thing doesn't exist so people settle for AWD and its non-fun handling.

Acceleration is fun. AWD cars tend to do it better.

That's only true if the same amount of power would really be spinning tires with just RWD. AWD cars are harder to launch without destroying your drivetrain.

What RWD car will keep up with the WRX 0-60 in 4.9s for $25k?
What RWD car will keep up with the TT-RS 0-60 in 3.6s for $56k?
What RWD car will keep up with the GTR 0-60 in 2.9s for $96k?

So basically if you wanna upgrade to AWD you get the S or RS4

If you want to stay luxo sedan with mod potential its the 335i or CTS-V

sounds about right

That depends, are we considering before or after the WRX's transmission explodes? 😛

I'll assume we aren't factoring in used vehicles for this equation, otherwise I'd have plenty of suggestions. AWD does definitely hold an edge for launching, but from a roll it's another story. How often do you really launch on the street? I find most of my fun acceleration (not at a track) is in the 20-70 range - highway onramps, etc. A proper launch is hell on my clutch(es) so it doesn't happen often.

I'm inclined to agree.

Never anymore. I drive a boring Outback CVT with two kids in the back. When I was younger, and had an STi, at most green lights.

Ah..haha yeah the STi's transmission doesn't have grenade-like tendencies. Too bad they're so damn pricey. 🙁

I saw your title and was going to come in and say 335i, haha.

CTS-V/anything with a GM small block.

Injected SBCs have alot of low hanging fruit HP wise if you go the FI route.

SC kits are cheap and simple as nails bolt ons.

Was driving a Lingenfelter TT C5 and could not believe the power available at EVERY rpm recently. When it first came in it was running like crap and STILL made crazy power. When we got it right it was lights out.
You could get a decent base C5 or C6 and drop in a SC with a better exhaust and be in really good company power wise. Dollar for dollar SBC mods are cheap.

heres a side pic of the car.

I launch My 2010 STI every chance I get.

I also dont drive it much. I only have 9400 miles on it in 2 years.

I have not done any tune to it as I do not want to loose my warranty.

@Zivic, when people suggest a 335i what makes that car more "nimble" or more sporty than say a G8 GXP/CTS-V? or does it come down to interior, ease of drive ability?

G8 has a huge trunk and has lots of seating room
