What's an "executive"?

What's the real difference between a vice-president and an executive vice-president?

Does the former report to the president while the later reports to the Board of Directors?

the "executive" vice-president can be executed at the command line, where the normal vice-president can only be seen in a hex editor!

"executive" implies they do something, not just sit at their desks and get paid.

Really, it's just a title.

There's a big difference in my company between just a vp and an evp. evp works closer to the ceo. and some of them make at least 200,000.00 more than regular vp.

Some companies and banks and out EVP titles like candy.

In my opinion a real executive is the 3rd or 4th person in charge in the chain of command.

Usually Chairman, CEO, CFO, etc. then the execs.
