Whats an allowable temp for a CPU?

After a cold boot and I run Prime95, a couple minutes to hit my max temps.

Right now my fan is set so that it's barely spinning. If I remember right, if I kick up my fan speed the diode temp gets closer to the socket temp or vice versa. I'll have to try it out later to confirm since I'm not at home right now.

i've got a 2.8C @ 3.5Ghz, are my temps fine? 36C idle and 49-50C loaded. or do i need more cooling solution?

If the processor is stable (i.e. Prime95 for 24 hrs) I don't think it's high till it reaches the 60's. If it gets up to 70, then I'd worry about lowering the temps. This is for AthlonXP's, haven't had any experience with P4's or A64's.
