my air-soft is a spring powered, 15 shot, cock and shoot plastic BB pistol. Shoots at roughly 200-250 fps so you feel it but it wont penetrate walls or skin. We shoot each other indoors much like paintball (closest sister sport).

It is almost as fun as eating pie!

Some of the electric airsoft guns are insanely expensive in the range of $300-400. As expensive as they are, I think I might get one just cause I'm sort of a gun nut.

I was going to tell you to get a real rifle, but then I saw you're from Kalifornia - worst gun laws in the country... have fun

Try 600-700 for a good Marui AEG, full metal.

The big distinction between a generic BB gun and "Airsoft" is the resemblance to a genuine firearm, which has caused them to be classed as replica firearms by several branches of law enforcement. Of course, they get lots of negative press for that, and naturally Airsofters are painted as homicidal maniacs in training, getting ready to conquer the world by force.

Though I must say, it was a stone riot in my university apartment when the RA walked in on the three of us brandishing what looked like a Franchi SPAS-12, M16 full-stock, and a pair of Glock 40s. :D

Because shooting someone with a real gun tends to cause death, which is detrimental to the sport. :p

yeah, but the way he talks, he isn't going to actually play with other airsoft enthusiasts. if he's a gun nut, just get a real gun
